Crutch: Everything we know so far about The Neighborhood spin-off series

Crutch is an upcoming comedy series set to premiere on Paramount+ in late 202. The eight-episode series will expand the universe of CBS's popular sitcom The Neighborhood. The show stars Tracy Morgan as Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, affectionately known as “Crutch,”. He is a widowed Harlem shop owner. When he plans for an empty nest, his plans get disrupted as his adult children nd grandchildren return. But this further unfolds some hilarious events.

The series is a collaborative effort between Tracy Morgan, who will also serve as an executive producer, and Owen Smith, who has been brought on board as showrunner. The duo previously worked together on the comedy The Last O.G., which was Morgan’s first major TV role after 30 Rock.

The plan is to schedule the premiere of the spin-off with The Neighborhood's season 8. CBS is on to this strategic launch, which could help in attracting more fans and some new viewers alike to watch the new show. Meanwhile, The Neighborhood Season 7 premiered on October 21, 2024, marking the beginning of what’s expected to be the finale season and also a springboard for the storylines viewers will see in its successor series.

The show blends some traditional and millennial Gen Z lifestyle and thinking, which becomes the threshold of all the comic events. Jake, who has come back for a lower income, becomes a major source of tension between Jake and his old school father, Frank. The show depicts the generational change around ideas of evolving success, changing responsibility and family.

Who is in the cast of Crutch?

Jermaine Fowler joins the cast as Jake Crutchfield, Frank Crutch’s Ivy League-educated son who leaves a high-paying law firm job to provide low-cost legal services in Harlem. Frank wants to live a quiet life, but his plan turns upside down when his kids move back in. Jermaine is his son, while Adrianna Mitchell portrays Frank's daughter, Jamilah, a free-spirited woman raising two young children on her own. He also has grandkids named Lisa, played by 12-year-old Braxton Paul, and 9-year-old grandson Mase, played by Finn Maloney, who adds to the energy in the household. According to reports, Lisa is depicted as sharp and opinionated; she adds to the moral compass of the family, while Mase is laid back and believes in living with the flow.

Adrian Martinez joins the cast as Flaco, Frank's loyal, lifelong best friend and the manager of his flooring store, offering comedic support and old-school charm. It is also teased that some familiar faces will appear from the parent show.

Cedric the Entertainer will appear as Calvin, and Tichina Arnold will appear as Tina, the guest stars in two episodes, while Max Greenfield will reprise his role as Dave. Though Tracy Morgan previously played Calvin’s wealthy brother Curtis on The Neighbourhood, Crutch is actually about Calvin’s cousin, marking a fresh new character and storyline for Morgan.

The show will likely explore whether Frank is resistant to change or learns to embrace it, and that tension offers plenty of room for both humour and heart. Tracy Morgan’s sharp comedic timing will only add to the experience.
