French thriller series The Hunt, which was all set to drop in December, received some intriguing allegations. It cannot be denied that the creation of a series takes immense dedication and hard work from the whole team.
So, to get the series shelved just before the drop definitely creates quite a heartbreaking situation for the whole team. Producer Gaumont revealed the process that the series is now going through after it faced the allegations.
The Hunt gets plagiarism allegations
The Hunt is helmed by the very talented Cédric Anger. However, now the director is facing a plagiarism allegation for The Hunt. Recently, the news spread like wildfire. It was revealed that the director copied the concept of the series from a 1973 novel.
The novel from which the series supposedly copied is Shoot, by Douglas Fairbairn. The novel was also adapted into a movie in 1976. The allegations are quite severe, which caused the series to get completely shelved for review.
In a recent interview with Variety, Gaumont revealed that The Hunt is “temporarily postponed”. Gaumont also mentioned that their team is “currently conducting a thorough review”. This will help them “address any questions” that might come up because of the production.
Some of the other projects of Cédric Anger are Next Time I'll Aim for the Heart, Paris Pigalle, Wingwomen, Le Petit Lieutenant, The Killer, etc. His works definitely depict the in-depth exploration of the storylines. Hence, his addition to The Hunt definitely added a layer of intrigue for the viewers.
However, this plagiarism allegation definitely creates a difficult situation for the whole team. The storyline of The Hunt features the story of Franck and his friends. A casual hunting trip becomes the source of complications for Franck.
He slowly begins to understand that he is being followed. Intense action, along with a thrilling, suspenseful atmosphere, features in this series. The synopsis of the series definitely created anticipation amongst the fans. It was supposed to drop on December 3. Now that the series is shelved, there is no certainty whether it will drop or not.
When the storyline of The Hunt is compared with the novel’s plotline, similarities definitely seem to be present. In the novel, the character Rex and his friends face a similar situation to that of Franck in the series. A hunting trip where Rex and his friends face a difficult situation while shooting from a different group. Soon, things begin to get complicated for Rex.
In the series, Benoît Magimel helms the role of Franck. Some of Benoît Magimel’s other projects include Rosalie, Pacifiction, Peaceful, The Taste of Things, Paris Memories, etc. The other cast members of the series include Mélanie Laurent, Cédric Appietto, Damien Bonnard, and many more.
As Gaumont mentioned that they take matters related to “intellectual property” very seriously, fans can only wait before any official statement is released related to the release of the series.
The series was supposed to drop the first two episodes on the very first day of release to increase anticipation amongst the viewers. After this release, the series would have followed a weekly release schedule. Now, with the surfacing of the allegations, Apple TV has removed the content related to the series.
