If you were scrolling through social media and felt a sudden rush of excitement and old memories, you are not alone. Three stars from Netflix’s street-level superhero shows, Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Mike Colter (Luke Cage), were all seen together in a single photo over the weekend at L.A. Comic Con.

Fans went wild. It was not a huge trailer or unexpected announcement; it was simply a warm reunion of the old The Defenders cast members that made everyone talk and speculate about what could come next.

The image was released over the busy L.A. Comic Con weekend, where Marvel guests and panels were already a mass attraction. It happened to be the ideal place to have a little yet thrilling moment that made everybody remember how great The Defenders team still is.

Daredevil meets his old Defenders team at L.A. Comic Con

In some cases, a single photo is sufficient to make fans go crazy on the internet. Krysten Ritter, the actress who played the Marvel Comics character Jessica Jones, posted an image from the L.A. Comic Con with Charlie Cox, aka Daredevil, and Mike Colter, who portrayed Luke Cage. The comments on the post were spicy, fun, and full of happy memories.

Photos such as this raise all sorts of questions: Will The Defenders cast collaborate once again? Will there be any new stories with their characters? Fans are fond of guessing what is going to happen next.

The most enjoyable thing is that the photo is so casual, as though it were taken by friends as they were hanging out, rather than at a large studio shoot. There is something natural about it. When the stars of a particular show get together and share it with the internet, it becomes personal and tangible, and the fans cannot help but begin to dream about a reunion.

What could this mean for Daredevil

The picture promptly had fans discussing potential Marvel crossovers, particularly with Daredevil: Born Again on the way. Some believe that the image alludes to a new Defenders-type of team-up in Matt Murdock’s story in Daredevil. As far as others are concerned, it is no more than a reunion of actors who belong to the same superhero universe.

Reporters were keen to mention that it does not mean that any casting or plot is approved of by merely attending a convention. There is still no official information as to whether Mike Colter will reprise his role of Luke Cage, although he has been giving us playful hints in his previous interviews. Nevertheless, the possibility of Matt rejoining former allies is thrilling and gives the fans much to envision.

L.A. Comic Con is the perfect setting for surprise meetups and reunions

Moments such as these are best suited for conventions. L.A. Comic Con came back as a huge fan event with panels, guest signings, photo ops, and hallway meetups that cannot be replicated by any official premiere.

This year's roster was filled with celebrity guests and entertaining activities that brought together stars and superfans alike, which made it easy to organize surprise reunions and impromptu photos that became a lighting trend on social media.

The actors tend to attend conventions in order to participate in Q&A, sign autographs, and meet their fans. Such visits inherently open opportunities for spontaneous hangouts.

Whether that was a mere meetup or the beginning of something larger, the L.A. Comic Con demonstrated the reason why these events are special: they gather creators and fans in one location, and sometimes that creates a little magic, or at least a great, postable photo.
