The newly added character of Billie Tsosie will be played by Isabel DeRoy-Olson. Olson is known for Three Pines (2022) and Fancy Dance (2023). She will be portrayed as a resourceful Navajo teenager who is determined to be free and connected with her culture and its people after being inside the four walls of a boarding school.

In season 4, Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito investigate a missing person, and reports speculate that she could be the central mystery of the season. Her story may touch on real-life historical and cultural trauma surrounding Native boarding schools and the broader theme of identity and cultural reconnection.

On the other hand, FBI Agent Toby Shaw will be played by Luke Barnett, best known for Faith-Based. He will be portrayed as a new FBI agent who becomes deeply involved with Leaphorn, Chee, and Bernadette. His presence among the trio might also complicate the investigation. Whether he is an ally or has a hidden agenda remains to be seen in season 4.
