NBC's Dateline episode titled "Jagged" aired on March 29, 2019. It depicted the story of an Ohio mother who got out of her night shift but never returned home. Her family filed a missing persons report, only to find out that their daughter had been brutally murdered and would never come back. When detectives investigated her case, it got even more muddled after the lead detective himself ended up under investigation.

Heather Bogle was a twenty-eight-year-old single mother of a 5 year old daughter, and lived in Sandusky County, Ohio. She worked the night shift at the Whirlpool factory, but was trying to clear a nursing course so that she could provide her daughter with a better future. But as luck would have it, it was not in her cards to see her daughter grow up.

Dateline revealed that Heather Bogle had been having a bad week before she went missing

When Heather Bogle left work at 6:17 am on April 9, 2015, she had been having a very bad week. She had been working really hard for her course in nursing school, but had recently found out that she had failed an exam. Heather was also on the verge of a breakup with her longtime girlfriend, Carmella Badillo, after a series of fights. She hadn't been in a good place when she left work, but when she went missing, her family was sure she wouldn't vanish and leave her daughter behind, causing them to become stressed.

When the police started inspecting, after a missing report was filed, they discovered her car parked near Somerton Apartments on Hickory Street, a place that was nowhere close to her home or work. Dateline revealed that in the trunk of her car, they discovered Heather's body, savagely beaten and shot. Her arms had proof of restraint, and there were bruises all over her body, which had been left in the trunk of her car in a Mickey Mouse T-shirt that was many sizes too big for her.

Detectives who were assigned to Heather Bogle's case never even questioned the person who was later convicted of her murder, even though someone who knew Heather asked the detectives to investigate him. Detective O'Connell, who led Heather's case, named three suspects within three months of opening his investigation. None of them, however, had any connection to Heather's murder. Detective O'Connell even hid forensic reports related to Heather's case in connection with these suspects. O'Connell pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence in 2018 about Heather's case.

Dateline: "Jagged" revealed that Heather's murderer was convinced his crimes would never be discovered

Owing to the gross misdirection that Heather's case, her murderer was convinced he would never be convicted of his crimes. He was never even listed as a suspect in the case, and for two years after he case was investigated, he roamed around freely, confident that he wouldn't be found. He even attended her funeral and donated money when a GoFundMe was started for Heather's daughter. He wrote a heartfelt comment on the page, mourning Heather's loss and praying for her daughter. He never even tried to hide himself, so confident he would never be discovered.

New Evidence led to Daniel Myers being convicted and sentenced to life in prison, as seen on Dateline

Heather's case remained unsolved for 2 years before it was reopened by Sheriff Chris Hilton, who traced back Heather's steps after she left the Whirpool factory. They tracked her electronic trail of coordinates and discovered that after leaving the factory at 6:17 AM, she was inside a trailer at 6:30 AM for about an hour. This evidence led them to Daniel Myers, one of Heather's co-workers, who refused to provide a DNA sample, saying he didn't know Heather.

Finding him suspicious, the police got a warrant for Daniel's DNA, and it matched the DNA found under Hannah's fingernail. Daniel was arrested and sentenced to life in prison without parole and an additional 20 years. After he was charged with Heather's murder, more women came forward with stories of sexual assault against him.

It even looked like he had committed a similar crime with his girlfriend, and the mother of his child, Leigh Ann Slider, another Whirpool employee who was found dead six years before Heather's death. The investigation had been closed after her death was declared a suicide attempt, but when it was reopened, a suicide note was discovered, which stated that she was abused by Daniel.
