Dateline looks back at the tragic murder of Heather Bogle in its episode titled "Jagged," offering a haunting look at how the case unraveled.
A young mother found brutally killed, a flawed investigation, and a suspect hiding in plain sight - this is a timeline filled with missteps, heartbreak, and finally, justice.
If you've been wondering how the pieces came together years later, this breakdown, along with a proper timeline, walks you through it.
Dateline: A complete timeline of the Heather Bogle murder case, revisited
1] April 9, 2015: Heather disappears:
Heather Bogle left her night shift at Whirlpool at 6:17 a.m. and vanished. The next day, her body was discovered in the trunk of her car. She had been beaten and shot twice, and her hair was chopped off.
According to Det. Sean O'Connell on Dateline;
"It made me believe whoever did this probably did it out of anger..."
The crime scene offered no clear direction, setting the stage for a chaotic investigation.
2] Early investigation, lowkey goes off track:
According to Dateline, Detective O'Connell shifted his focus to a few individuals based on circumstantial evidence. His theory centered around drug-related motives, leading him to accuse Keynona Bor and Omar Satchel.
Despite a lack of physical evidence, he publicly named them. Bor later claimed;
"He pretty much had like a personal vendetta against my child's father."
Even the DNA under Heather's fingernails didn't match the suspects. As leads dried up, doubts about the direction of the case started to grow.
3] The family’s doubts and a new lead:
Heather's family didn't trust O'Connell's judgment. They questioned why he ignored closer relationships, including Heather's ex-girlfriend, Carmella Badillo, and her brother, Josh Feasel.
Both had histories with Heather and even left disturbing messages or notes. Still, DNA evidence didn't link them to the crime either. With increasing pressure, O'Connell became the subject of an investigation himself for evidence tampering.
4] 2016–2018: A new team takes over:
According to the NBC true crime show Dateline, after O'Connell resigned, Major Nick Kotsopoulos reopened the case. He called the earlier work "a mess" and cleared all the previous suspects.
Using GPS and Heather's Google account, detectives found she had last been near a trailer owned by a Whirlpool coworker named Daniel Myers.
DNA taken from under Heather's fingernails matched Myers. Kotsopoulos said;
"Heather Bogle was the real hero in this case because she fought back..."
5] 2019: Justice finally arrives:
Daniel Myers was arrested and pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to life without parole.
In court, Heather's cousin Pat Harger told him;
"You knew, didn't ya? You stayed clear of me, didn't ya."
Her mother's message, read aloud, expressed a mother's heartbreak:
"If she lived through the horror that you put her through, she would never be the same person once she came home."
This revisit by Dateline of Heather Bogle's case shows how truth can still surface, even after years of confusion.
Misguided theories, poor decisions, and personal biases almost buried it, but determination and evidence led the way. It took time, but justice found its voice.
