Dateline: Secrets Uncovered brings forth yet another gruesome murder case, which completely shocked the world. Besides the horrifying manner in which the murder was done, the case also went on for quite a long time before justice could finally prevail.

After getting married in 2003, Jason and Michelle Young shifted to the Enchanted Oaks subdivision near Lake Wheeler in Raleigh to a new house where they lived with their daughter. Michelle gets pregnant with her son in the year 2006, after which disaster strikes her life.

On Nov. 3, 2006, Michelle’s dead body was found by her sister, Meredith Fischer, when she arrived at their house for a chore. Dateline revisits the complete timeline of the Jason Young murder trial.

After Michelle’s sister, Meredith Fischer, finds her body in her bedroom, she also finds Michelle’s daughter under the sheets of the bed. Right before the murder, Jason Young left the house for a supposed business trip on November 2, 2006.

From that time onwards, Jason refused to cooperate with the investigators despite the investigators finding blood on his Ford Explorer. Before Michelle’s brutal death, Jason also made a life insurance policy on his wife for an amount of $1 million.

The autopsy of Michelle arrived in January 2007, which revealed she had sustained multiple fractures in her skull because of multiple blows to her head. Though the autopsy had no evidence of sexual assault, it was revealed that she had been hit 30 times. Investigations continued until August 2008. Blood stains that matched Jason’s DNA were found.

In October 2008, Michelle’s mother filed a suit against Jason Young for wrongful death so that Jason could be further investigated. On Dec. 5, 2008, Jason was put behind bars after the Wake County judge ruled on the wrongful death claim that Michelle’s mother filed. Jason was also found guilty of collecting on the life insurance policy.

Dateline also revealed the investigations on Jason’s computer, which included internet searches on topics such as “anatomy of a knockout,” “divorce,” and “head trauma knockout.” Michelle’s daughter, who was found near her body, was also drugged during the time of the murder.

On May 16, 2009, Jason Young was ordered to pay a hefty amount of $15 million to Michelle’s family. Finally, years after Michelle’s death, Jason is indicted on a first-degree murder charge. In March 2012, a retrial convicted Jason, causing him to be sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of parole.

Dateline completely unfolds the details of Jason’s involvement in Michelle’s murder. In April 2014, a third trial was ordered. However, the N.C. Supreme Court overturns the decision and ultimately denies Jason’s third trial. Jason is at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury for his crimes against his wife, Michelle.

Before murdering his wife on November 3, 2006, the couple was involved in an accident in May 2006, when their car went off a cliff and was even partially submerged. During this accident, Michelle was pregnant but had a miscarriage after the accident. Right before this incident, their insurance amount was increased. Though the state trooper who investigated the case was not suspicious.
