1) Dateline: See No Evil - Skylar Neese shared cryptic messages before her disappearance

Skylar Neese was going through a rough patch in her friendship with Rachel and Sheila, who had been her best friends since childhood. While the three girls spent most of their time together, Skylar's social media hinted that the girls were involved in a fight just days before Neese's disappearance. Two days before her disappearance, Skylar Neese even shared two cryptic messages on her social media:

"It really doesn't take much to p--- me off," and "Sick of being at f------ home. Thanks 'friends,' love hanging out with you all too."

This was followed by:

"You doing s--- like that is why I can NEVER completely trust you."

2) Dateline: See No Evil - The police found discrepancies in Rachel and Sheila's initial statements

On July 6, 2012, the day Skylar Neese went missing, Sheila claimed that the three friends had made up. Rachel and Sheila picked up Skylar Neese from her house at 11 pm, following which they drove around town, smoked marijuana, and dropped her off back at her house (following which she went missing).

However, surveillance video outside Skylar Neese's house showed she was picked up at about 12:30 pm (and not 11 pm) in a car. This made the police suspicious about Rachel and Sheila's accounts, and both girls were further pressed for the truth.

The police's probing finally worked, and Rachel had a nervous breakdown, following which, she finally confessed to Skylar Reese's murder (with Sheila) on January 3, 2013. The 16-year-old claimed that she and Sheila 'did not like' Skylar Neese, and thus stabbed her to death.

This chilling confession was legitimized when Rachel guided the authorities to Skylar Neese's remains, found 20 miles near West Virginia, in Wayne Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.

4) Dateline: See No Evil - Rachel and Sheila murdered their best friend in cold blood

According to Rachel's account, both girls picked Skylar Neese from her house at 11 pm and took her to a secluded area in the woods called Brave. They had already hidden cleaning rags, a shovel, clean outfits, bleach, and wet wipes in the back of their cars. They asked Skylar to fetch a lighter from the car, and just when she turned her back, they both stabbed her to death. Authorities confirmed that Skylar Neese was stabbed more than 50 times.

After Rachel and Sheila had confirmed that their friend was not breathing, they covered her body with leaves and branches and changed into their fresh pair of clothes.

5) Dateline: See No Evil - Sheila continues to show no guilt over Skylar Neese's murder

After Rachel's confession, the police confiscated Sheila's phone, computer, and her Toyota Camry, which contained traces of Skylar's DNA.

Sheila, who was Skylar Neese's childhood friend, continues to show no remorse or guilt over her death, and even said this during her trial:

‘I made one mistake, that doesn’t make me a bad person.'

She was charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. She is currently being held at the Lakin Correctional Center and will be up for parole in 2028.

On the other hand, Rachel's confession and cooperation allowed her a shorter prison sentence of 30 years on a second-degree murder charge. Following her trial, she has also apologized to Skylar Neese's parents and will sit for her next parole hearing in 2026.
