1) The brutal murder of Chiquita Tate

While preparing for a case, Chiquita decided to spend the night in her office on February 19, 2009. As per Dateline, her husband, Greg Harris, called the police on February 20, 2009, after he couldn’t enter her office in Baton Rouge. When the police came, they encountered Tate’s body in her office amidst all the papers and files that were strewn about.

Dateline reported that Tate was stabbed almost 43 times but didn’t go without defending herself, as the police noticed that she had retained a lock of hair of the perpetrator.

2) Greg Harris becomes the suspect

As the husband, Harris became a suspect. Harris revealed that the last time he met his wife was when he brought her some food earlier on that fateful night. He told the police that he went straight back home after meeting his wife. However, when they found Tate’s wallet in Gardere Lane and asked Harris about going there, his statement made the investigators suspect him more.

He told police that he went to Gardere Lane on February 19 to buy some steroids, which contradicted his earlier confession of going straight home.

3) Marriage troubles and a domestic violence case

As per Dateline, further investigations brought Harris under more suspicion as they found an unresolved domestic violence report against him. When he was questioned about it, he told the investigators that it was an old complaint and that they had worked through it and were fine now.

However, that was not true, as the investigators found that Tate had rented an apartment and paid three months' rent. It seemed clear that she was planning to move into it, leaving Greg, especially after his financial troubles came to light.

4) The fake tip from an anonymous person

As per Dateline, the investigators thought Greg’s family might have helped him in the case when they received an anonymous call telling them about Tate’s involvement with two women. When investigated, it was found to be an adoption case that Tate was helping these women with.

The investigators then tracked the call and found it was Harris’s sister who called them, although she denied it. They thought it was an attempt to save Greg and mess with the investigation, but it only brought more suspicion on him.

5) Greg Harris was found guilty of committing murder

All these attempts helped the investigators get a search warrant for the couple's home and also Greg's car. They found traces of blood in the house and also a box of weave hidden under the bed. The DNA testing proved that the blood found in the apartment belonged to Tate.

In March 2011, Greg went through his murder trial, where a jury found him guilty of manslaughter and sent him to prison for 40 years.
