Dawson’s Creek reunion adds Lin-Manuel Miranda as script-reading replacement

In the month of August, an announcement shook the fans of the legendary teen drama, Dawson’s Creek. It was announced that there would be a script reading featuring the cast members. Right after the announcement, the internet was stormed by the fans' anticipation regarding this script-reading event. This event was organized to benefit F Cancer and Van Der Beek.

However, James Van Der Beek took to Instagram to announce that he will not be able to join the event. For this event, he will not be able to join due to a stomach issue. Van Der Beek was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer last year. The Dawson’s Creek actor admitted that, though he will not be joining the event, he will be replaced by a very talented actor. Lin-Manuel Miranda will be taking James Van Der Beek’s place in the event.

This event is the first reunion after the series ended. Hence, the anticipation is at an all-time high. We know James Van Der Beek is a crucial part of Dawson's Creek. He takes on the lead role of Dawson Leery. Throughout the series, Dawson Leery dreams of becoming a filmmaker, taking much of his inspiration from Steven Spielberg.

At the beginning of the series, we see a 15-year-old Dawson who slowly grows through the series. He navigates through life filled with a multitude of experiences that add to his path towards his goals. It cannot be denied that James Van Der Beek is the heart of Dawson’s Creek. However, health should always be prioritised over anything else.

Hence, his decision not to take part in this event is understandable. It cannot be denied that Van Der Beek would be eagerly missed at the event. However, he made sure his replacement was equally talented. He wanted the fans to get the full immersive experience without missing out.

The list of talents that Lin-Manuel Miranda possesses is unending. From acting to filmmaking to singing, he can literally do it all. Hence, it can be expected that he would be able to do justice after replacing James Van Der Beek for this event.

This Dawson’s Creek event will be helmed by Jason Moore. With the production by Carl Ogawa, Jason Moore, Michelle Williams, Thomas Kail, Maggie Brohn, series creator Kevin Williamson, and Greg Berlanti, this event will feature the cast members who were present in the very first episode of the series.

From Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, to Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps, the event will be bustling with all the members with whom the fans grew deeply attached through the series.

This unconventional script reading event for Dawson’s Creek is quite different than the full-scale reboots. Recently, many of the old TV shows have been getting a full reboot.
