Netflix is getting into the macabre with a comedic spin with its upcoming Death Inc., a Spanish-language series that explores dysfunction, legacy, and family politics in a funeral home. The first two seasons of the hit show will debut on the streaming giant on July 31, 2025, and serve as the international premiere for the popular Spanish dark comedy. The two seasons will soon be followed by the third, which will debut exclusively on Netflix on August 21.

The series, originally called Muertos S.L., was a local hit on Spain’s Movistar Plus+ platform. The distribution deal follows Netflix’s acquisition of the series, which represents a major turn for the show, expanding its viewer base and securing a permanent spot in Netflix’s developing library of abroad-set dark comedies.

Death Inc. will have a weird concept and biting writing that might draw in fans of strange family sagas such as Dead to Me, The Kominsky Method, or Six Feet Under. Its arrival comes at a time when audiences are attracted to stories that offset emotional absurdity with sharp humor, and this series enthusiastically embraces both.

Release date and what is Death Inc. about? A look into the funeral home farce

The show will debut its first and second seasons on Netflix on July 31, 2025, followed by a third on August 21, 2025.

Helmed by Adam Rutherford, Death Inc. is about a family business of a funeral home in Spain. Death Inc. begins with the sudden death of the patriarch and founder of the business, Gonzalo Torregrosa. His death triggers a wild free-for-all for command of the Torregrosa Funeral Home, as his survivors, each with their own competing interests and dubious qualifications, vie for control.

The one who thinks it should be him is Dámaso Carrillo, Gonzalo’s loyal and longtime right-hand. But just as Dámaso is about to ascend the throne, Gonzalo’s elderly widow, Nieves Torralba, seizes power. Nieves calls on her son-in-law Chémi, a marketing buffoon "with more plans than brains." Together, they work to restore the family business, though not without hardcore pushback from Gonzalo’s daughters, who would prefer to shut it down altogether and turn it into a contemporary gym.

And while the personal drama plays out, the series also brings in external strife, in the form of an avaricious rival funeral company looking to expand. As if the competition wasn’t tough enough, a scandal from Gonzalo’s past emerges, endangering the family’s reputation and the company’s prospects.

With some genuine agility, the show mingles satire and sentiment. It doesn’t bank on heightened parody but grounds its black humor in character-based conflict and social observation. Death Inc. holds up a mirror to generational misunderstandings, family loyalty, and corporate idiocy in the surreal backdrop of running a mortuary.
