Marvel Studios has released a new teaser for their new four-part miniseries, Marvel Zombies, and it shows the world in the midst of a dire situation with no way out. Its synopsis reads:

"After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world."

The teaser is barely half a minute long, but it builds the right momentum for the show. It begins with an ECG graph, which makes it seem like the death of everyone out there is imminent. Throughout the clip, we only see brief flashes of people running toward a target or terrified about what they are about to face in the wake of what looks like a zombie apocalypse.

Based on what we see, it might be all the more challenging to figure out the heroes and the villains in this story.

Marvel Zombies was reportedly supposed to be out after a live-action Blade film

The Blade film, starring two-time Oscar-winning star Mahershala Ali, was supposed to go on floors by now. However, for creative or logistical reasons, the project never saw the light of day. So, it also led to a change in the Marvel Zombies storyline.

In an earlier draft, Blade was supposed to be a part of this spin-off animated miniseries. However, since the live-action Blade movie never came out, the team reportedly reworked that character. Brad Winderbaum from Marvel Studios recently spoke about it during his interview with IGN. Here's what he said,

"We never, in a million years, thought that the Zombies show would precede a live-action Blade. We developed this show believing there would be a Blade movie out well before Zombies."

Since the Blade movie never materialized, the Marvel Zombies team brought another character, Blade Knight, instead.

"So the fact this is the first Blade in the MCU on screen is really just kind of a surprising privilege to us, and that's one of the reasons why we made him The Fists of Khonshu, was that they were discovering Blade in the live-action side, and we knew that we could end up having to pivot if we tried to hew close to what they were creating in live action. So by making him a version of Moon Knight, we were able to kind of create something original and have a little bit more freedom with the character."

That's why the miniseries now includes Blade Knight, voiced by Todd Williams. The rest of its cast and characters include:

  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
  • David Harbour as Red Guardian
  • Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop
  • Dominique Thorne as Iron Heart
  • Awkwafina as Katy Chen
  • Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan
  • Simu Liu as Shang-Chi
  • Elizabeth Olsen as The Red Queen
  • Randall Park as Jimmy Woo

Bryan Andrews directed Marvel Zombies with a script he co-wrote with Zeb Wells. It will have its four-part premiere on September 24, 2025, on Disney+.
