The first recoupling ceremony featured various male participants choosing their partners. Among them, when it was Austin's turn, he went on to choose Chelley to be his partner.

Love Island USA Season 7 Episode 6: Austin chose Chelley during the first recoupling
During the first recoupling ceremony, when it was Austin's turn to choose his partner, he chose Chelley. The reason behind choosing her, Love Island USA star Austin shared:
"I would like to couple up with this girl because she's been so patient with me, and every time we talk, it just feels like we're getting deeper and deeper, and I totally could see myself on the outside with this woman."
She then joined Austin, and the host asked her about how she felt being with Austin. Love Island USA star responded that they were both "slow" to start and that they both knew how important it was to get to know each other.
Love Island USA star Chelley recalled the past few days and stated that her conversations with Austin have been "amazing."
