Detroiters, the Comedy Central sitcom starring Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson, premiered on February 7, 2017. But unfortunately, the show was cancelled after two seasons in 2018. While it wasn't as successful back in the day to be renewed for more seasons, recently, after it became available for streaming on Netflix, Detroiters has seen some success.

The show has been well-received by the new viewers, but alas, there are only two seasons. Sam Richardson, who played Sam Duvet on the show, was asked by ScreenRant if there have been any talks about the show's potential return. Richardson responded with an update, which is mostly positive, but not entirely.

Sam Richardson on the future of Detroiters

Detroiters was a sitcom that followed Sam Duvet and Tim Cramblin, two best friends who lived next to each other and worked together as well. They were creatives at Tim's family's advertising agency in Detroit that produced television commercials for local businesses. Thus, the sitcom revolved around their daily personal and professional lives.

When ScreenRant interviewed Sam Richardson at the TIFF red carpet for his upcoming film, Sacrifice, he was asked if there had been any conversation regarding the return of Detroiters since it had been popular on Netflix. Richardson responded,

"Well, I think we would love to do it, but we're both kind of doing so much. Like, Tim [Robinson] has his HBO show that comes out soon and I Think You Should Leave, and I am working on stuff. We're both kind of busy, but we'd love to do it. It's about being asked, and it's about the timing."

As Richardson pointed out, Tim Robinson has co-created, written, and executive-produced The Chair Company recently, which is set to be released soon on HBO. Besides, he is also busy with I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, which recently got renewed for a fourth season. I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson has been a hit on Netflix for years now, and it would make sense to renew another show of Robinson's.

Sam Richardson has had a busy year as well, as he starred in Star Trek: Section 31, and has two movies, Sacrifice and Hypergalactic, releasing soon. Both Richardson and Robinson are set to voice characters in The Angry Birds Movie 3. As Richardson said, while they are both busy, they'd love to collaborate again for another season of Detroiters if they are asked. Hence, whether a third season will happen or not is up to the network now.

Other than Robinson and Richardson, Detroiters starred Shawntay Dalon as Chrissy Cramblin, Lailani Ledesma as Lea, Chris Powell as Ned, Andre Belue as Tommy Pencils, Pat Vern Harris as Sheila Portnadi, Quintin Hicks as Quintin the Bartender, Carolette Phillips as Rhonda Devereux, Jason Sudeikis as Carter Grant, Amber Ruffin as Molly, Mort Crim as himself, and Obba Babatundé as Mr. Duvet.
