Dexter fans aren’t waiting for critics. They’ve taken matters into their own hands. Over on Reddit, they’ve crowned the best series in the franchise.

And if you are amongst the ones who have found themselves yelling at the screen during New Blood, then the latest series in the franchise, Resurrection, might just be your redemption arc, too.

Fans have taken to Reddit to share their verdict. From the opening moments of Resurrection Episode 1, something just "clicked". There’s a return to what the show was always about.

There's that deeply unsettling joy that our forensic analyst turned serial killer feels when he’s back in his element. And fans are lighting up Reddit with praise.

Let's get right into it.

Dexter fans on Reddit love Dexter: Resurrection

One user, Thin-Coyote-551, captured it perfectly:

“Dexter is an amazing series and it’s been an amazing ride. But there are times when the series feels better or draws me in more. New Blood wasn’t terrible but after so long I guess it didn’t live up to my hopes and draw me in. I just watched the first episode of Resurrection and it just clicked. From the first few minutes I was hooked and all I can do is pray it continues this way.”

Resurrection doesn’t try to overwrite past mistakes. It does the much smarter thing, and that is, it builds on them. New Blood may have faltered for some, but Resurrection gives it purpose. It gives Harrison actual development. It gives Batista a reason to be around. And most importantly, it gives Dexter the chance to be himself again.

Another fan, bengringo2, chimed in with this gem:

“They've finally found writers who aren't trying to make a soap opera out of the show. The way they show Dexter’s giddy excitement and euphoria during and immediately after a kill...”

Yes, that’s who we signed up for. The show isn’t afraid to go dark and clever again. It leans into what made the original iconic. There is a psychological tug of war inside his mind. And on top of that, there is the bizarre and almost euphoric calm he finds in hunting and doing what he does best.

The idea of him joining a serial killer dinner party with characters played by Eric Stonestreet, Uma Thurman, and Peter Dinklage is not something that would have even remotely crossed our minds. And when it first dropped, we were unsure about how it would all play out. But somehow, it actually works. One user, Vitchkiutz, summed it up:

Everyone seems to agree unanimously that this is the best dexter yet. I mean, the original is great because it's slow burn and introduced us to the world of dexter. But this new season is just pure entertainment from the begin to the end of each episode. Whoever wrote season this must be feeling pretty good about themselves right about now.

That’s the beauty of the show. It’s ambitious, but it’s also self-aware.

Here's what another fan, Dajakamo, wrote:

Resurrection is so damn good so far. The BHB is a legend and there are so many directions they can go with this. New Blood was ok, I enjoyed it, but I think I liked Original Sin better, just because Patrick Gibson did such an amazing job of capturing Hall’s mannerisms. But man, Resurrection is legit."

And yet another user, xTheRedDeath, wrote:

"Resurrection feels more like what we expected New Blood to be. I feel like the character can really shine here and every episode feels like the natural progression of things as a true revival."

So, is Resurrection really the best entry in the franchise? According to most of the fans, it is, clearly. With top-tier casting, smarter writing, and a deeper understanding of who he really is, this series feels like the show’s dark heart.

Fans are hooked to Dexter's thrill of the hunt, the unexpected alliances, or just the sight of him with that eerie little smile again. And if the rest of the season keeps this momentum, we might just be witnessing Dexter’s most killer comeback yet.
