The origin story of Dexter Morgan is finally here with Dexter: Original Sin, which will follow a young Dexter trying to navigate his killing urges with his adoptive father, Harry Morgan, in Miami.
A prequel, this spin-off series that hit the screen after Dexter: New Blood has failed to captivate audiences as much as its parent show.
Picking up directly from the events of the New Blood finale, where we see Dexter bleeding out in the snow, he begins to reminisce about his youth and how he got the taste for his first kill.
Michael C. Hall plays the narrator in this series, who will guide the story for the viewers as Patrick Gibson fills his shoes in the role of a young Dexter.

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 2 will be available on Friday, December 20, 2024, via Paramount+ with Showtime. For viewers who want to catch the episode on their cable TV, Showtime will premiere on December 22, 2024, at 10 pm.
According to IMDB, the official logline for Episode 2, titled 'Kid in a Candy Store,' reads as follows:
''Dexter adjusts to his new job as a forensics intern at Miami Metro; Deb lashes out at her dad by engaging in petty criminal behavior.''
Given that Harry's health issues were already mentioned in the first episode, Dexter and Debra's agony over nearly losing their father and Dexter's moral compass breakdown are likely to worsen in the upcoming episodes.
The next episode will see how, after having a taste of his first kill, Dexter will plunge deeper into his identity as a serial killer, the one we meet in Dexter, the parent show. Trouble will also follow Debra, who will get her rebellious mode on and indulge in minor criminal activities.
What happened in Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 1?
The prequel Dexter: Original Sin started right where the sequel Dexter: New Blood ended, with Hall's Dexter bleeding out in the snow and doctors trying to resurrect his heart. The doctors save him, and thus, he begins to relive his youth, when he had the first taste of a murder.
We meet a young Dexter who is a student training to be a surgeon. He feels disappointed when the body he is working on in the class does not have blood inside.
Episode 1 establishes that Dexter is in the process of experiencing his killing urges, something which he shares with his adoptive father, Harry, who is working on catching a serial killer.
Dexter collects clippings of Ted Bundy and other serial killers who are his heroes. He goes to a party with his sister Debra and nearly kills a boy who was trying to abuse her. Her sister stops him.
When Dexter communicates his growing killing urges with his father, the two take a hunting trip where Harry has a heart attack. The doctors tell them that Harry had a heart blockage and he needs to lower his stress levels and start leading a healthy lifestyle.
Dexter discovers his first target at the hospital when he sees a nurse getting happy to see that the patients are dying. He discovers that this nurse, Mary, is also treating Harry and injecting him with potassium nitrate, which will slowly kill him without leaving any trace or suspicion.
He goes to her house and clumsily stabs her with a knife, disposing of her body in the swamps. He keeps her earrings, maybe as a remembrance of his first murder, something which he recalls was a terrible mistake.
The episode ends with Dexter starting his first day on the internship with the forensics team with Harry.
