Dexter: Resurrection continues to build tension with every episode. It pulls viewers back into the mind of one of television’s most complex anti-hero. The revival has taken a darker and a more psychological route. It delves into Dexter’s internal battle with his code and legacy. It also shows us his complex relationship with his son.
In Dexter: Resurrection Episode 4, Dexter infiltrated the serial killer party hosted by Leon Prater. It was an event teeming with serial killer guests and their deadly secrets. There, he connected with Mia, who appeared to share his appetite for justice.
The episode ended with a huge twist. Dexter revealed himself to Harrison as he was going to the police station. The father and son were finally face to face.
Dexter: Resurrection Episode 5 picks up that emotional thread and threads it through a tense and revealing hour filled with heartbreak and disturbing truths.
Dexter: Resurrection Episode 5 recap: Dexter's other side
Dexter: Resurrection Episode 5 opens with Harrison stunned to see his father alive. Dexter quickly tries to explain that he wasn’t stalking him but actually trying to protect him. On their ride back to Harrison’s place, the two finally talk. Harrison admits that killing Ryan Foster destroyed him emotionally.
Unlike Dexter, who feels control when he kills, Harrison has only felt guilt in Dexter: Resurrection. The constant ticking of Ryan’s watch has haunted him and that's a symbol of a darkness he doesn’t want to revisit. Dexter offers to take the watch from him so that he doesn’t have to bear this weight.
He also finds out that Batista had reached out to Harrison, but his son never said a word to the cops. Still, Harrison isn’t ready to accept Dexter back in his life. After a while, he walks away.
Later, Harrison meets Wallace, who shows him a newspaper article about the school shooting he stopped. That doesn’t clear his name entirely, but it offers him a bit of peace that he’s not under arrest.
Dexter, meanwhile, is consumed by loneliness. Harrison won’t let him in. He has no one to talk to. And that’s when he turns to Mia, the alluring woman who’d hinted at being more like him. They go bowling, flirt, and open up about their inner voids.
But as they grow closer, Mia asks something that shakes Dexter. She asks if can they murder together. She still thinks he’s “Red” who was a killer of innocents. Harry is the voice of reason in Dexter’s head. He warns him saying Mia doesn’t have a code. She wants to kill with Red, not with Dexter.
Still, Dexter keeps meeting her. When another call to Harrison ends in rejection, he goes on a wine date with Mia. That’s when she reveals her next target, a rideshare driver. But that's an innocent man so Dexter is stunned. This goes against everything he believed about her. She’s not like him at all. She kills for fun, without any rules. Dexter realizes she’s dangerous.
When the moment comes, Dexter can’t go through with it. Mia is disappointed and leaves to find another victim. This is when the episode titled is justified. Mia was "Murder H*rny". Knowing he can’t let her keep killing, Dexter makes a decision. But killing her would raise suspicion especially after Ryan’s disappearance in Dexter: Resurrection.
He sees her kissing her next target and just as she’s about to strike, Dexter calls 911. The police arrive just in time and arrest her. But Dexter adds one final touch. He plants Ryan Foster’s watch in her apartment, effectively pinning the blame on her. Wallace is shocked to find it.
News of Mia’s arrest stuns everyone, including Batista and Harrison. But the moment leads to healing in Dexter: Resurrection Episode 5. Harrison returns to his father and Dexter apologizes. He tells Harrison he doesn’t want him to be a killer, that everything he’s doing now is for him. It’s a rare moment of vulnerability. We see Dexter as a loving and caring father asking for a second chance.
Elsewhere in Dexter: Resurrection Episode 5, Charley informs Prater about Mia’s arrest. Prater wants it dealt with soon. Charley visits Mia in jail, pretending to be her lawyer. She promises her she won’t be locked up for long.
