Dexter: Resurrection just pulled off one of its boldest moves yet, turning the Gemini Killer storyline on its head in a way nobody saw coming.
In episode 6, a kill that seemed final was anything but, with David Dastmalchian's Gareth delivering a twist worthy of classic Dexter shocks.
The answer? There's more than one Gemini, and it's about to change everything. What follows is not just a reveal, but a game-changer for Dexter Morgan's most dangerous hunt this season.
The kill that didn’t stick
Episode 6 of Dexter: Resurrection wastes no time setting Gareth up as Dexter's next target.
The episode builds to a tense mental duel between the two, more a battle of wits than of brute force. Inside Dexter's apartment, Gareth's ego becomes his downfall when a poisoned drink puts him on the floor. What follows breaks one of Dexter's long-standing rituals: there's no kill table, no plastic wrap.
As David Dastmalchian told The Direct:
"I think what was cool about my kill scene is that they very, very, very rarely has Dexter ever killed a serial killer not on the table, not wrapped in plastic."
"So, the fact that he had to improvise and do what he has to do in this particular scene, it was fun for me, because I said to them when we were setting it up, I was like, you never really do it like this. [And they were like] this is a first for us. there are a lot of firsts with Dexter when it comes to my character, Gareth."
But just when the audience settles into the satisfaction of a completed kill, the rug is pulled. Moments later, on Leon Prater's helicopter, Dexter sees the impossible: Gareth stepping out of a car, alive or so it seems. The reveal is brutal in its simplicity.
The Gemini Killer has a twin, a truth that's been hiding in plain sight through the character's signature paired murders. This twist doesn't just revive a dead man, but it rewrites the rules of the entire game.
Dastmalchian on the twin twist and the road ahead for Dexter: Resurrection
Dastmalchian, clearly savoring the reveal, shared with The Direct that fans who rewatch the season will "start to notice the little differences between the performances that I gave," from the way he walked to the way he used his eyes. He also pointed out how this isn't a space Dexter usually operates in:
"Dexter's never played around in the supernatural space... you've never actually seen somebody able to transcend death."
While Dexter: Resurrection keeps the mechanics grounded, the moment plays with the audience's expectations in a way that feels almost otherworldly.
This revelation puts Dexter in unfamiliar territory. He doesn't know which twin he killed, nor what the surviving brother knows about him. Gareth had even kept his sibling a secret from Prater, making the search that much harder. Dastmalchian called the role,
"A serial killer with a secret that is so mind-blowing and challenging for Dexter that he's never faced an adversary quite like this."
With the twin now aware and surely on guard, Dexter's usual methodical stalking could hit a dead end, and that tension is exactly what makes this twist so effective.
The Gemini Killer twist in Dexter: Resurrection isn't just a clever plot turn-it's a reminder of why the series remains addictive years after its debut. By introducing a second, hidden killer, the show has handed Dexter a foe unlike any before, one who can match him in cunning and surprise.
If this midseason reveal is any sign, the rest of the season for Dexter: Resurrection promises a deadly chess match where every move counts.
