The Boys spinoff, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, comes with some bad news for its fans. The series began airing in 2022 with a distinct storyline that quickly became a fan favorite. However, despite the many fans of the series, it was just not enough to keep the series going.

The Boys Presents: Diabolical will not be returning for the next season as it was recently cancelled. The reason for this cancellation is not something new. However, it is truly disheartening to see a storyline that gave us a new look into the world of the supes will no longer be returning.

Eric Kripke speaks on the cancellation of The Boys Presents: Diabolical

Eric Kripke opened up about Diabolical getting cancelled, and his words truly add to the overall disappointment. It cannot be denied that for TV shows to get renewed, a certain number of viewership is essential. However, the series did not bring the number of viewers that the creators had initially thought it would.

Hence, despite the creative team trying their best to bring the show back, they could not overlook the numbers. Eric Kripke admitted that there was no lack of “pushing” on their part to keep the show going. He also had to admit that the “viewer numbers” were not justifying a second season, so they understood the issue.

Though The Boys Presents: Diabolical might not be getting the required number of viewers to keep the show going, its other counterparts, The Boys and Gen V, are doing well. It cannot be denied that the intrigue towards live action can be hard to miss. As Diabolical is an animated series, it might not cater to the larger audience of the fandom.

The format that the series followed, with each episode bringing in new stories with every episode, makes it truly worth watching. A combination of complete chaos and brilliance, this series does not specifically end with a big cliffhanger. Rather, it can be understood that there would have been a subtle shift in the storyline if the series had arrived with its second season. No official statement is released by Prime Video; however, Kripke’s words clearly indicate that it is not going to happen.

Diabolical comes with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which proves how well received the show actually is. The cancellation is a depiction of art meeting business reality. The mastermind behind it all, Eric Kripke, indicates that he is “game” for a next season if the show continues. Any studio would undeniably prioritise its resources over anything.

Similarly, as this series was not catering to the numbers, it had to go. Though the series is not getting a spinoff, you can definitely relish the eight episodes of the first season again and again. The series was truly a delight to watch. Actors like Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, and many more reprised their roles.

We might not be getting a second season of this series, but the other shows of the franchise are returning with more interesting elements. It can be understood that Prime Video is now focusing on the live-action counterparts of the franchise. The franchise started with live-action, but with its shift to animation through this series perfectly depicted the depth and elements that this franchise can offer to the viewers.
