John Foster has become a fan favorite since his debut on American Idol. In the most recent episode, where the singers had to work through a Mother's Day theme, John did his best, and the viewers started their voting. It turns out that the Addis native has made it to the Top 5.
This is a big feat given that he is just 18 years old and fresh out of high school. He has a huge crowd of supporters and, during last week's performance, even introduced his girlfriend when judge Luke Bryan couldn't hear him sing over her cheering.
His family and friends, who total 45 people, are always present during his shows on American Idol and have been supporting him throughout his journey.
Given the fact that it was Mother's Day on May 11 when the episode aired, he also got to celebrate the occasion with his mom. The duo was at Disneyland and posted pictures on social media from their time together. He captioned it saying,
"It was such a pleasure to spend some time with my family at Disneyland ahead of our Disney Nights on @americanidol! 😁 Get ready to vote next Sunday and Monday! Here we go! ❤️"
American Idol - John Foster performs 'Believe'
At the start of his performance on this American Idol episode, John, who is sitting with his mom, Amanda, who is wearing a Mickey Mouse headband, says he wishes to perform Believe by Brooks and Dunn for this week's episode. He dedicated it to his mother, saying that it is she who has taught him to always believe.
"I wanted to sing this song for my mom because she is one of those people who's always taught me to believe... And she has always come to reassure me that you are exactly where you need to be."
Amanda, who is teary-eyed by this point, says that she was born to be a mother and is glad that John is her son. This makes the 18-year-old emotional and the mother-son duo hug it out.
During his performance, as Luke Bryan was analyzing the vocals, Carrie was singing along with him. In the audience, John's mom held a poster that said, 'I believe in you, son.'
By the end, a picture of him and his appeared at the back of the American Idol stage, and the crowd cheered loudly. All three judges couldn't help but stand up and applaud.
Carrie claimed that it was a perfect song choice and thanked him for choosing it. As for Luke Bryan, he said,
"You keep surprising me every week, and you keep just doing the right things. The whole thing giving out there to TV and to people at home is gotta be making people like the heck out of you, and that's what this business is about. Making people like you. And that is a great song choice. You're killing it, brother, you're killing it!"
American Idol season 23 episodes can be watched weekly on Sundays and Mondays at 8 PM Eastern Time on ABC. Later, the episodes are available to stream via Hulu.
