Monster Season 3: The truth behind Monster: The Ed Gein Story
Also called the Butcher of Plainfield, one of the unique yet chilling aspects of Ed Gein's murders was reusing the body parts of the victims to make household items.
In 1957, after the investigators searched his property for a missing hardware store owner, Bernice Worden, they not only found her body but also evidence of other crimes. She was shot, her body parts were dismembered, and her head was found in a box.
It was during the search that the police found out about Gein's crimes. Gein robbed graves and used the body parts to make household items. He admitted to killing both Worden and Mary Hogan, a tavern owner.
Although he was arrested, he was deemed unfit for trial and was put in psychiatric facilities. In 1968, he was found guilty of killing Bernice Worden. He was found mentally unfit at the time of the murder, and he spent the rest of his time in a facility. He died of cancer in 1984 at the age of 77 at the Mendota Mental Health facility in Wisconsin.
Monster Season 3: Did Ed Gein have a girlfriend?
Within days of Ed Gein's arrest, Adeline Watkins revealed that she had been in a relationship with Ed Gein for over two decades, according to a report from The Minneapolis Tribune. Watkins shared that they shared a good bond, and she still loved him even after discovering his brutal atrocities.
During the exclusive interview, Watkins also alleged that Ed Gein proposed to her for marriage on February 6, 1955, but she turned him down. She further revealed that the reason for turning down the proposal was not because of Gein or any of his actions, but rather that she did not feel confident enough to live up to the expectations.
Watkins' mother, who lived with her daughter, claimed that Ed Gein was a sweet and polite man. Adeline Watkins also revealed that during their dates, they mainly discussed books. Turns out, they even discussed murders, and Ed had a habit of pointing out what mistakes the murderer made. Apart from that, they were like any other normal couple; they went out for movies and drinks.
However, soon after the article was published, Adeline Watkins denied all the claims.
