The sitcom Friends is most famously known for its guest stars, who always played fun and memorable characters in the show's universe.
From Brad Pitt to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis, you name it and the sitcom has it. Actor Adam Goldberg also appeared in Friends Season 2, but he played a rather creepy character, Chandler's crazy roommate Eddie.
While Eddie appeared in one episode, he is an unforgettable character because of his weird personality.
While Eddie's time was short-lived on the sitcom, Goldberg also guest-starred in Friends' spin-off series Joey, as Jimmy Costa.
Jimmy was shown to be Joey's best friend and the two hadn't been in touch for 22 years. After Goldberg's appearance in Joey, many fan theories believed that Eddie and Jimmy were the same person.
More on this in our story.

Friends Eddie also appeared as a different character in Joey
Adam Goldberg played one of the creepiest characters on Friends, Chandler's roommate Eddie. Goldberg appeared in Season 2 as Eddie when Joey gets a gig on Days of Our Lives and moves into a luxurious apartment, forcing Chandler to look for a roommate.
Then comes Eddie, who was not only creepy but had psychotic issues as well. He hated Baywatch and loved watching sports, completely opposite from Chandler in both aspects. However, the more disturbing traits of his personality began to show as the episode progressed.
Eddie gaslighted Chandler into believing that he was having an affair with his girlfriend and had killed his fish, when neither of these was true. In addition, he stole mannequins for fun, dehydrated fruits, had a creepy personality, and he would also watch Chandler while he was asleep.
When he was not ready to move out, Chandler had no option left but to leave all his clothes out and change the lock on his door. By this time in the episode, Joey had also moved back in, and when Eddie came knocking back, Chandler said that he already had a roommate (which Eddie bought).
While this was the end for Eddie on Friends, Goldberg appeared as Jimmy in Joey. The reason for his disconnect with Joey was revealed to be Joey's sister, Gina, as Jimmy and Gina used to date, which did not sit right with his brother.
In addition, Jimmy was also the father of Gina's son, Michael.
A wild Friends theory suggests that Eddie and Jimmy are the same person
While it was common for sitcoms to use extras as multiple characters, which explains Goldberg's dual characters in the Friends universe, fans have a wild theory.
A wild fan theory suggests that Eddie and Jimmy are the same person, as Jimmy portrayed many character traits similar to Eddie. According to this theory, Eddie changed his name to Jimmy and followed Joey to Hollywood, where he posed as his best friend from 22 years ago.
As wild as this theory is, it has little evidence to support it. While Joey was dumb and slow to notice things, he would still have recognised his best friend from 22 years ago, and the fact that his sister used to date him just adds to this.
The only believable connection is by Reddit user u/ramblingsofamadcat:
''So the Eddie storyline was just an elaborate setup by Joey to get Chandley back as a roommate! It all makes sense now.''
While this still sounds wildly possible that Joey used his best friend Jimmy to act as Eddie, it never happened canonically on Friends. In addition, Joey would surely have come clean to Chandler after this incident (which did not happen), so it is also unbelievable.
