John Krasinski's Jack Ryan might have already warned the world of the political climate in Venezuela as clips from the show have emerged after the current US strike on the country, suggesting a relationship between the two things.

After news of the United States' strikes broke out, social media went haywire. Among everything else, users started connecting cinematic dots, that showed a similar incident happening on the show.

The 2019 show is largely set in Venezuela and revolves around a corrupt authoritarian leader, political unrest and US intelligence operations. It even involved an attack at the presidential palace. The similarities in the premise led fans to buzz the platforms with several videos that joked about the show being an Easter Egg for political unrest in the country.

However, Jack Ryan season 2 did not forecast the present situation. Instead, it drew from years of existing reporting and geopolitical analysis. By the late 2010s, Venezuela’s economic collapse, disputed elections, and allegations of authoritarianism were widely covered. The show’s fictional president, Nicolás Reyes, was designed as a composite figure inspired by real patterns seen in the region, not a prophecy of Maduro’s future.

So did the show predict the crisis? No. But it did reflect a geopolitical reality that had been unfolding for decades. What viewers are responding to is recognition this climate. Fiction did not lead to reality here, instead, reality finally walked into fiction’s frame.
