John Foster, on American Idol's latest episode that released on May 4, 2025, sang 'Something to Talk About' by Bonnie Raitt. The theme for the week was 'Iconic Women in Music.' Miranda Lambert had joined as a guest mentor, and she was appreciative of John's aura and presence on stage.
Miranda advised him to interact with the audience during his performance and keep his guitar aside. That would increase his charm and show the judges how capable he is, not only as a singer but also as a performer. John did just that and received acclaim from the judges, especially Carrie, who has been on his team since day 1.
Talking about his performance on American Idol and his whole journey till now, the season 3 winner said,
"I feel like you are the one that we have watched grow the most throughout this entire process. Every single time you step on stage, you feel more comfortable. You're working on the stage more, you're connecting with the audience more, and with the audience at home as well. I saw you looking in that camera. I love that! I just feel like you've grown so much. Keep leaning into that, keep getting loose. They love it, they love you."
American Idol singer John Foster makes it to the Top 8
Addis native John Foster on American Idol had decided to perform Something to Talk About by Bonnie Raitt. He was guided by Miranda Lambert, whom he claims was his childhood crush. She was flattered to hear this and gave him tips that would help him move ahead on the list.
After his performance, Carrie expressed how she loved seeing him grow on his Idol journey, and each time he gets better with it. Taking over, Luke Bryan said,
"Your charisma meter is like peaking off the charts right now."
He then proceeded to call him to his side of the stage and asked him to say hello to the group of girls who were standing around him.
He said that he can not hear from his left ear now because of how much the women cheered him during the performance. Heading over to the side, John revealed that one of the girls was his girlfriend and the others were his cousins.
Next, Lionel Richie stood up and went over to an audience member and asked her if she liked the performance. To this question, she replied affirmatively, and Lionel rested his case that John killed it that night and would continue to be a winner later on.
Recently, John had been caught up in a lot of rumors about him circulating on the internet. Some claimed that he is 24 years old and already has a record deal. Clarifying it all through his Facebook account, John wrote,
"I'm not related to Dwight Yoakam, nor am I currently signed under any record label (there was some misinformation that Dwight Yoakam signed me under Sugar Hill Records)."
American Idol season 23 episodes can be watched weekly on Sundays and Mondays at 8 PM Eastern Time on ABC. Later, the episodes are available to stream via Hulu.
