In Week 6 of Big Brother Season 27, the game took a dramatic turn as a major player exited the house under surprising circumstances. Zach Cornell, once considered a strong contender, was sent home in an 8-2 vote against Vince “The Egg” Panaro.

His eviction came after a critical decision regarding the Power of Veto. Despite being on the block, Zach chose not to use his $10,000 Veto, a move that left viewers and houseguests stunned.

The decision, combined with the week’s Head of Household (HOH) competition, shifted the power balance in the house. Ava Pearl’s reign as HOH ended, and Rachel Reilly secured her seventh career HOH win, tying the all-time record with Cody Calafiore. Here’s exactly what happened with Zach’s veto decision and other key events from the episode.

Zach’s missed veto opportunity shakes up the Big Brother 27 house

On Thursday, during the Week 6 events of Big Brother Season 27, Zach Cornell faced eviction alongside Vince Panaro. Despite holding a special $10,000 Veto from Week 1, a power that could have saved him from the block, Zach decided not to use it.

This decision was made even though Ava Pearl, the outgoing HOH, had targeted him as one of the major players in the house. Keanu Soto won the BB Block Buster competition, securing his safety, leaving Zach vulnerable.

The eviction vote resulted in Zach's elimination by a margin of 8-2. The only houseguests who voted for him to stay were Rachel Reilly and Will Williams. Notably, neither Rachel nor Will was part of Zach’s primary alliance.

The women Zach was most loyal to, Morgan Pope, Lauren Domingue, and Mickey Lee, switched their votes to keep Vince without hesitation. With his eviction, Zach also left the game holding the “BB Buyout” power, removing all special powers from play for now.

Inside the eviction episode and shifting alliances

Earlier in the week, Ava Pearl had secured her HOH win after the “Melting Pot” alliance collapsed. Her reign was marked by an emotional breakdown during the live eviction episode, despite orchestrating Zach’s eviction. Keanu Soto continued his competitive momentum by winning the Blockbuster challenge, which played a significant role in determining the eviction outcome.

The Big Brother episode confirmed no active twists remaining in the game following Zach’s departure with the “BB Buyout” in his possession. The upcoming week is expected to bring nominations on Friday and the Power of Veto competition on Saturday.

Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves breaks down Week 6 drama and standout players

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Friday, August 15, 2025, Julie Chen Moonves addressed Zach Cornell’s decision. She said,

“This shows how in the BB house you truly never know who your friends are! This is a classic example of what getting blindsided in the game means!”

Julie praised Keanu Soto’s performance in Big Brother, calling him a thinker and strategist with “grace under fire” who remains calm, considers every move carefully, and shows his methodical nature, qualities she linked to his experience as a Dungeons & Dragons Master. When asked who holds the most power in the house, Julie named Vince, explaining,

“This guy has the majority of the house under his spell. He has the gift of gab and making people feel safe with him and like they can trust him.”

She also humorously revealed that, given the choice, she would wear the egg costume over the butler outfit, calling it “an over-easy choice” due to its comfort and practicality.
