Diego Trujillo from Netflix's Medusa has a surprising Breaking Bad connection (and many don't know this) 

Diego Trujillo, a Colombian actor known for playing the patriarch in the Netflix series Medusa, has a surprising connection with a popular series, Breaking Bad. In Medusa, Diego's character, Damian Hidalgo, is seen to be involved in crucial decision-making for the family business empire.

The actor is known for his crime and drama series and for playing morally ambiguous and complex characters. His career and acting style are a lot similar to that of Bryan Cranston's portrayal of Walter White in Breaking Bad. But wait, there is more to it.

Diego Trujilo plays Walter White in the Columbian adaptation of Breaking Bad

Colombia is the main source when it comes to cocaine. Therefore, the viewers are accepting of shows and films exploring worlds of drugs, mafias, and kingpins. There is also a term for these shows—Narcosoaps, which usually receive high ratings in the region.

Diego is used to the Colombian adaptation of US soaps and has been part of many. He plays Rex Van De Kamp in the Latin version of Desperate Housewives and also stars in the Grey's Anatomy adaptation in Columbia. Therefore, Breaking Bad was meant to be adapted, keeping in mind the kind of world it portrays, and none was better than Diego Trujillo to play the lead character, Walter White.

This Colombian adaptation goes by the title Metastasis, and Walter White is Walter Blanco. Blanco is the Spanish word for white. However, there is no Latin word for Breaking Bad; therefore, the makers chose Metastasis, as it refers to the spread of cancer. The show depicts an ordinary chemistry teacher becoming a drug kingpin after getting diagnosed with cancer that left him with limited time to gain wealth for his family.

Metastasis follows the same storyline with some slight changes. In the original series, the meth lab is shown in a home van situated in the deserted, remote area, while, in the Colombian one, the meth lab is inside an old school bus.

Which character is Diego playing in Medusa?

Just like in Breaking Bad, even in Medusa, Diego is the center of the family, who is responsible and accountable for important decisions. Medusa portrays Barbara Hidalgo, who suffers an accident when a bomb blasts inside her yacht, and she is buried deep into the water. However, she returns with fragmented memories and becomes part of her business empire. She discovers the ugly truth about her family members and discovers that the accident was actually an attack.

Damian Hidalgo is a gray character and is suspicious of his own family's hand behind the attack on Barbara.
