Malcolm in the Middle was undoubtedly a go-to option for every household after its release. It is finally coming back. This time, the series is getting a revival. Four new episodes will be dropping very soon. The series ran for seven seasons and ended with a hearty note. There was an impact on the fandom. Even today, Malcolm in the Middle is remembered as an intriguing sitcom.
This series changed the scenario of the world of sitcoms. The distinct realistic humor that this show brought forth is worth appreciating. News arrives about the revival and the return of three original cast members. Frankie Muniz will be back once again as the titular character. Recently, he uploaded an image with two other original cast members, hinting at the return. However, one cast member will not be returning for this revival.
Malcolm in the Middle revival brings back three original stars
Frankie Muniz's post shows Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson all together. This post is an indication that the return of three of them for the revival of Malcolm in the Middle is confirmed. Justin Berfield took on the role of Reese in the original series. Masterson took on the role of Malcolm's eldest brother, Francis. Justin Berfield’s Reese is quite impulsive most of the time, but his character definitely brings out a layer of heart in the original sitcom.
At the beginning of the series, we often see Reese using his physical strength on his brothers. He is also prone to making rash decisions. The plans that he usually makes often end up putting him in a difficult situation. This added a layer of humor to the overall storyline. However, unlike Reese, his older brother, Christopher Masterson’s Francis, is quite different.
In the series, he is sent to military school. Francis's behavior was causing immense trouble for his parents. It can be understood that the revival will bring forth the characters in a completely different light.
In the original series, they were much younger and often prone to making troublesome choices. In this revival, the characteristics of the brothers could be different. Hence, it would definitely be intriguing. To see Malcolm, Reese, and Francis back together in Malcolm in the Middle brings in the nostalgia.
A major absence in Malolm in the Middle revival
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are also coming back to take on their roles as Malcolm’s parents in the revival of Malcolm in the Middle. It almost seems like a big reunion of the old characters. However, it is not the case. One cast member will not be returning. Erik Per Sullivan, Dewey's actor, will not be a part of this revival.
This is because Sullivan is now doing his master's degree at Harvard. He has shifted his career path. It cannot be denied that his absence would be quite a blow to the revival.
Besides his intriguing performance as Dewey in the original sitcom, he also took on many other projects, such as Christmas with the Kranks, Unfaithful, Wendigo, and many more. He might not be present as Dewey in the revival of the sitcom, but in his place, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will be joining in.
Dewey’s character is truly quite intriguing, considering how different he is from his elder brothers. Despite the continuous torments that his brothers put him through, he chose not to be like them. When his younger brother was born, he chose to become a loving brother instead of being physically abusive like his other brothers.
