What to expect from DMV Episode 9?

CBS has shared the official story setup for The Next Window.

“At the Big Sac holiday party, Colette tries to impress Noa before his single “window” closes. Meanwhile, Barb’s effort to save the East Hollywood DMV backfires when she accidentally tackles the director, but assistant Sally (played by Leslie Jones) steps in to help.”

There are two main storylines in this episode. The first is Colette and Noa. Colette faces a “single window” chance with Noa.

The second is Barb and the DMV. Barb fights against bureaucracy. She tries to stop the East Hollywood branch from being shut down.

The episode also has a special guest star. Leslie Jones plays Sally. Sally is an assistant who arrives to help. She shows up after Barb’s plan to save the branch goes very wrong.

Since Episode 8 already had holiday chaos, this episode will be even bigger and louder. It will be a more important Christmas-style episode. Now, the story connects to everything that happened up to Episode 8.

In Episode 8, Colette tries to befriend Barb to secretly change the office money decision. Her plan gets strange and out of control. Barb sends many late-night texts. They get trapped in a broken self-driving car. Barb later tells Colette some hard truths. She says Colette can be needy and overwhelming. But Barb also admits she thought Colette truly needed a friend.

Going into DMV Episode 9, the Big Sac holiday party is Colette’s last big chance with Noa. This is why the episode is called The Next Window. After being called out in Episode 8, Colette may try to change. Or she may double down and make things worse.

In DMV Episode 9, you can expect Colette and Noa in many awkward party moments. Colette must choose between making a big, dramatic move or actually listening to what Noa wants. The episode may end with an emotional mini-cliffhanger for their relationship. This would help pull viewers back after the holiday break.

There may be sweet moments, too. Noa may see Colette’s good heart. But there will also be embarrassing moments. Colette may go too far and have to pull back.

Meanwhile, by Episode 8, Barb is still trying to stay positive. She spends money on ugly Christmas sweaters. The staff wanted a coffee machine instead. This causes a big fight. It leads to the self-driving car disaster. It also changes what Barb and Colette’s friendship really is.

In DMV Episode 9, the problems become more serious: Barb is now trying to save the East Hollywood DMV. This means a final decision about the branch is coming. Her plan goes very wrong. She even tackles the director. That is a very bad person to attack at a work party.

A new character enters: Sally (played by Leslie Jones). Sally is an assistant. She comes in after Barb’s plan fails badly. She tries to help fix the damage. Leslie Jones has a big, energetic comedy style. So expect: Fast talking, big jokes, bold physical comedy, and lots of chaos at the crowded holiday party.

Story-wise, DMV Episode 9 will likely: Put the shutdown question right in front of everyone. Show Barb finally hit her breaking point as she cannot stay endlessly positive anymore.

Sally may help in one of two ways: She may help Barb fight smarter. Or she may show how ridiculous the system is.

Because this is the midseason finale, DMV Episode 9 may end with: A cliffhanger about the branch’s future. A temporary save with a warning. Or a new problem that sets up the rest of the season.

On the other hand, Episode 8, Splash Fountain, showed how lonely almost everyone at the DMV really is. Gregg tries to order a new chair. He talks to customer service. He believes he has made a real friend. But it is actually an AI system. He still forms a real emotional bond with it.

Vic becomes jealous of Gregg’s “friendship.” He tries to bond with Noa instead. They only share a few interests. These include protein powder and kettlebells. They realize they have almost nothing else in common.

Ceci tells the truth that Gregg’s friend is not real. Vic has a chance to embarrass Gregg. But he chooses not to do it. This shows Vic has a softer side.

This matters for DMV Episode 9: The holiday party will show who feels connected. It will also show who still feels alone. Gregg will likely still want a connection. The AI secret will still hang over him.

Vic’s new kindness may lead to two paths: He may protect Gregg at the party. Or he may mess up again and try to fix it later.

Ceci’s role in DMV Episode 9: She may comment on all the party chaos. She may watch Colette’s “window” plan closely. She may also point out the loneliness under the fun.

Expect Episode 9 to show two sides: Loud and silly holiday comedy on the outside. Real emotional feelings underneath.
