Heated Rivalry is the queer hockey love story that turned rivalry into religion for many of us. The 2019 book by Rachel Reid has now been adapted into a series by HBO Max and Crave, so viewers really want to know what happens in the books. They ask: Do Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov get married?

Well, the timeline of their relationship is a roller coaster of hookups in hotel rooms, career-defining games, coming-outs, and THE milestone!

Okay, so based on the canon timeline, there’s no grey area. Shane and Ilya do, in fact, get married in the Heated Rivalry books! Of course, even their wedding comes in two acts, the first is chaotic and the second is intimate.

Shane and Ilya's relationship timeline in Heated Rivalry

Long before the wedding, Shane and Ilya’s story began in 2008 when they met at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Regina, and a rivalry began. They met again in 2009 at the NHL draft, and from that moment, every time they met, they were haunted by a tension neither of them could shake off.

Through the 2010s, they spiral as neither is ready to speak about their feelings. But in the summer of 2017, at the lake, they admitted being in love. By 2018, they started coaching hockey camps together and enjoyed domesticity. In 2019, they announced the Irina Foundation and built a life around each other.

And then in 2020, they had a wedding. It was officiated by Jade and Ruby Pike and attended by an audience of plush toys and Arthur!
