Fox has officially set the return date for Doc Season 2, confirming that the hit medical drama will premiere on Tuesday, September 23 at 9/8c. The new season is expanding from its original 10-episode run to a full 22-episode order, signaling major confidence from the network. Molly Parker returns as Dr. Amy Larsen, whose life was upended after a brain injury erased the last eight years of her memory.

Now, she’s working her way back into the hospital hierarchy while trying to untangle a complicated love triangle and career setbacks. This season, the story picks up after Richard’s lies come to light, leading to his firing and the arrival of a new chief. Felicity Huffman joins the cast as Dr. Joan Ridley, Amy’s former professor and the new head of internal medicine. Doc Season 2 will explore new hospital dynamics, professional rivalries, and unresolved personal tensions.

Doc Season 2 picks up directly after the fallout from the Season 1 finale, where Dr. Richard Miller was exposed for lying about his role in a patient’s death. His removal leaves a leadership vacuum at Westside Hospital—one that gets filled by Felicity Huffman’s character, Dr. Joan Ridley. She’s not just a new face in the hospital; she’s Amy Larsen’s former professor and mentor, which creates immediate tension. Ridley isn’t walking in as a blank slate.

She has strong opinions, a history with Amy, and the authority to reshape the internal medicine department in her own image. Huffman’s role isn’t a side addition. She’s the new boss, and how she handles hospital politics—especially with Amy still rebuilding her career from the ground up—is expected to be central.

Molly Parker returns as Amy Larsen, now a former chief forced to restart her life with eight years of her memory missing. Amy spent Season 1 dealing with the shock of her memory loss, her demotion, and the reality of working beside both her ex-husband and new boyfriend, often without even remembering how those relationships had evolved.

Doc Season 2 pushes that even further. Amy isn’t just back on her feet—she’s in a messy personal triangle. Her kiss with ex-husband Michael (Omar Metwally) was caught by Jake (Jon Ecker), the man she was dating. Both men still work at the hospital. This triangle isn’t going away. It’s going to mess with their ability to work together, and it’s likely to cause real problems in the medical setting.

Dr. Michael Hamda, played by Metwally, has been trying to respect Amy’s space but now finds himself pulled back in emotionally and professionally. Doc Season 2 could put him in direct competition with Jake—not just romantically, but over their roles at the hospital.

Jon Ecker’s Jake Heller, meanwhile, won’t take betrayal lightly. He’s been there for Amy, but now he’s wondering if he was just a placeholder. If Amy leans toward Michael again, Jake could back off or lash out, depending on how the writers choose to escalate that drama.

Patrick Walker, who plays intern Dr. TJ Coleman, is now a series regular. In Season 1, he looked up to Amy and struggled to adjust to her post-accident personality. Now he’s more confident, but still learning.

His role will likely involve navigating the changed hospital culture, especially under Dr. Ridley’s leadership. Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, also promoted to regular, returns as Amy’s daughter Katie. Her scenes may move deeper into how Katie’s still adjusting to a mother who doesn’t remember most of her childhood.

Dr. Miller, played by Scott Wolf, may have been removed from his position, but he’s not necessarily gone. There’s always room for a disgraced doctor to return in a limited capacity—especially if the show wants to explore redemption or legal consequences. If he reappears, it could stir up everything again, from hospital politics to Amy’s progress.
