In Absentia Season 1, there is no indication that the character Warren Byrne, portrayed to be Emily's adoptive father, dies. The character, played by Paul Freeman, remains part of the main cast throughout all three seasons of the show.

A former FBI agent, just like his daughter, Warren is seen helping out Emily, and also gets hospitalised for a brief period of time in the second season.

Absentia also shows Byrne receiving several threats and danger, but never depicts his death or writes him out as deceased. This suggests that he does survive the events of Absentia.

Absentia revolves around FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne, who has been missing for 6 years and presumed dead while hunting a serial killer. In Boston, Emily's case again surfaces when the agents find an unidentified body killed in a similar fashion to the serial killer Emily was chasing years ago. His eyelids have been cut off, and this pattern has not been seen in years, which raises immediate questions and threats within the FBI.

In other news, Emily's husband, Nick Durand, receives a mysterious phone call from Conrad Harlow, the man imprisoned for Emily's murder. In the phone call, he tells Nick that he just has an hour to save Emily's life. This is when Nick alerts the FBI, who follow the leads. It is revealed that Emily is alive but stuck inside a glass tank, continuously submerging under the increasing water level.

We now see Emily back with her family, in emotional chaos. Nick feels shocked and guilty, but most of all, he wants to protect Emily. Jack, Emily's brother, is overjoyed but concerned, while Warren, her father, feels that he has been given a second chance.

In Season 1, Warren is a father who is torn between trauma and guilt as he finds Emily alive and is overwhelmed. He tries to support her, but struggles. However, his protective instincts make him the most loyal supporter of her, especially when suspicion turns towards Emily.

Season 2 of Absentia was intense for the character as he became increasingly anxious seeing Emily getting dragged, yet again, into dangerous investigations. He experiences a major collapse while playing games in an arcade with Flynn, which shows how emotionally and physically exhausted he is. He is hospitalized briefly, but then again continues to support his children.

Warren and Emily's relationship in Season 3 starts to heal as Warren's role becomes smaller but more significant. He becomes a steady emotional anchor for Emily, and this is how the show makes it clear that he is alive and is going to be even in the finale as well. Emily then steps away to protect her family.

Therefore, Warren remains part of Emily's family and remains unaware of Emily's final covert choices.
