NBC's Chicago Fire has seen continuous cast changes due to creative decisions and off-screen drama throughout its thirteen-season run, but David Eigenberg's Christopher Hermann has been a main character since Season 1.

A beloved character, Hermann started as a senior firefighter with Firehouse 51 and then became a lieutenant in Season 5 after passing the exam. In Season 13, he also passed the fire captain exam.

While Hermann has had many health scares and serious accidents over the years, he has overcome them all. He is not dead in Chicago Fire, and there are no reports about Eigenberg's exit from the procedural as well.

While the show will see some cast changes after Season 13, Eigenberg's Hermann is not one of them.

More on Chicago Fire's cast changes in our story.

Hermann does not die in Chicago Fire Season 13

Hermann is a beloved and one of the main characters in Chicago Fire, which makes fans worry about his future in the procedural. Usually, fan favorites and characters who have had a long run on shows like Fire are written off for shock value from the audiences, but fortunately, Hermann is not among them.

While Hermann does not die in Season 13 and there are no rumors about Eigenberg's exit from the show, he was absent from two consecutive episodes of the ongoing season.

Hermann was absent in Season 13, Episodes 6 and 7, and the show did not explain his absence. While fans were worrying about the character's fate, he finally appeared in Episode 8, the mid-season finale of Season 13.

This was due to budget cuts across the One Chicago universe, which means that even main characters might not appear in some episodes. Since the production is cutting back on cost, fans might not be able to see all the cast together in every episode.

One or two cast members might be absent in every episode, which explains Eigenberg's absence from Episodes 6 and 7.

Who is leaving Chicago Fire Season 13?

While Eigenberg will continue to appear in Chicago Fire, two other actors are about to exit the show after the current season. Due to the ongoing budget cuts, it was reported that the network will boot Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), and they will not appear if/when the show returns for Season 14.

While neither the actors nor the network has commented, the characters' fate in the procedural looks final. Both Ritter and Carver are long-time characters on the show who have brought their own charms and added to its depth.

Soon after the news broke out, Kyri wrote this on his Instagram story:

''I’ll miss this character, and it’s time to move on.”

With only three episodes left in Season 13, it would be interesting to see how the show wraps up these characters' storylines. Fans will likely not be happy if either of these characters ends up in a body bag in the finale.
