Hello Girls assemble! Hospital Playlist spin-off series Resident Playbook introduced another K-pop group in town, Um Jae-il's (Kang You-seok) former boy band HI-BOYZ.
During resident introductions in episode 1, Jae-il revealed that he was a part of a K-pop boy band named HI-BOYZ. After it was disbanded, he enrolled in medical school and eventually became an OB-GYN resident.
Since the mysterious boy band was mentioned, fans have wondered if the HI-BOYZ K-pop group from Resident Playbook exists in real life. The answer is no, Jae-il's K-pop group does not exist in real life and was created specifically for the show.
While the K-pop group is fictional, Episode 9 revealed that HI-BOYZ had seven members, two of whom were TXT members Yeonjun and Soobin. Fans were shocked to see the TXT members in such unexpected cameo roles, but it worked in favour of the show's popularity.

TXT members appeared as HI-BOYZ band members in Resident Playbook
While every resident had their backstories on how they ended up in medicine, Je-il's was the most interesting. After he mentioned his K-pop group HI-BOYZ, he expected to run into some of his Hello Girls (fangirls) in the hospital. He finally found one in a patient's daughter, and Jae-il even signed an autograph for her.
Resident Playbook Episode 9 revealed that Jae-il's HI-BOYZ group's other two members are none other than TXT’s Yeonjun and Soobin. When the squad goes to a karaoke place, Jae-il performs on HI-BOYZ's top charting song 'When the Day Comes'.
The music video on the screen behind him revealed that Yeonjun and Soobin are the other two members.
Fans were excited to know how TXT members ended up becoming former HI-BOYZ bandmates, and they started theorizing on why the band would have disbanded in Resident Playbook. While the K-pop group is entirely fictional, it has received much love from fans on social media.
While Yeonjun and Soobin could not appear in a cameo in the K-drama (apart from the music video), HI-BOYZ will perform on the music reality show M! Countdown. M Net music company announced that Yeonjun, Soobin, and Kang Yoo-seok will take the stage on the show soon:
“It’s true that HI-BOYZ from ‘Resident Playbook’ will be appearing on the show. They are scheduled to appear on the upcoming May 22 broadcast.”
A fictional K-pop group getting real love from fans, the K-drama truly had the best cameos ever.
Kim Sa-bi was also revealed as a HI-BOYZ fan girl
Resident Playbook's Sa-bi harboured a deep secret, which finally came out in Episode 9 after she got drunk at the group's karaoke outing. When Jae-il plays the HI-BOYZ song, Sa-bi cannot control herself and joins him in the performance.
While the other three residents are shocked after this reveal, Sa-bi's flawless dance proves she was a Hello Girl all along. When returning to their home, Jae-il asks Sa-bi about her bias, which she reveals is Top Key.
While fans speculated about who Top Key was, it was finally revealed when actress Han Ye-ji did the When the Day Comes dance challenge with TXT member Yeonjun and mentioned that he was Top Key.
While the K-drama did not expand much on Jae-il's former band HI-BOYZ or Yeonjun and Soobin's characters, the fans are excited to see the fictional band perform in the reality programme.
The TXT OST When the Day Comes is already exploding on social media, and fans are recreating the choreography for the viral dance challenge.
Resident Playbook is now streaming on Netflix.
