The closest he came to death was when he got infected with CCHF. In the eighth season, it seemed that he would die from the disease. However, he survives, this time because of Bobby.

It cannot be denied that Howard is a comedic genius. His nature and humor-laced dialogues in the series add value to show. Hence, if he truly dies someday in the series, fans will definitely not be happy.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kenneth Choi, who plays the role of Howard in the series, speaks about his feelings after Bobby’s death in 9-1-1. He says,

“I was sobbing. I mean, I f---ing filmed it and I was still sobbing uncontrollably with my friend for like three or four minutes to the point where I started to laugh at myself, because it was uncontrollable sobbing. I was laughing at myself saying, 'I don't know what is happening! I know this isn’t real! Why am I acting like this?' But it was devastating to me.”

While discussing how Howard feels after losing a friend in the series, he adds,

“Chimney is devastated. It's not just the loss of his captain. It's not just the loss of a colleague. It's not just the loss of a friend. He has taken on the burden of incredible guilt because he knows that Bobby sacrificed himself to give Chimney the one dose of the vaccine.”

Characters from long-running TV shows often become so close to the audience that their deaths feel personal. Although Howard is not dead, the death of Bobby has created a layer of sadness in the series and amongst the fans as well.
