What happens to Jack in Absentia?

Though season 3 of Absentia revolves mostly around Emily and her journey to rescuing the trafficked children, Jack's character arc is worth noticing as he almost dies. However, the season 3 finale reveals him surviving finally despite his fall, which began in season 1. Moreover, he starts to contribute to Emily's mission and finds meaning in his life.

Season 1 shows that Jack was once a talented surgeon, but Emily's disappearance devastates him. He spirals into alcoholism and guilt. This further leads to him making a fatal mistake during a surgery, ultimately losing his medical license after the incident. At the start of season 1, he works as an EMT, ashamed and angry.

When Emily returns after six years, Jack is one of the first people who is interrogated, given his alcoholism and unstable condition. Evidence is even planted to make him look guilty, although Emily insists on his innocence.

He is framed for murder, and this is when Jack relapses into drinking, emotionally destroyed. He never chose to abandon Emily, even when everyone else lost faith.

In season 2, Jack nearly dies as he gets framed again for a crime. Dr. Oduya, the corrupt scientist, enters the story, being connected to Emily, and puts Jack in danger.

Jack's condition is deteriorating, being manipulated, drugged, and blamed for the crimes he has not committed. Jack is kidnapped and is injected with a lethal compound during the investigation. In season 3, the finale season, is when Jack's arc completes a full circle. He decides to be sober and in a stable state of mind. He takes responsibility for his past and rebuilds trust with Emily, Nick, and Flynn. Even though he isn't a federal agent, Jack uses his medical knowledge to help Emily understand the experiments being done by Meridian.

He starts to help them analyze substances or treat certain victims, being the one who understands the biological element of the trafficking ring. In the final season of Absentia, he earns his life back after years of downfall and darkness. He is now emotionally stable, working towards a meaningful mission while making use of his medical knowledge. Moreover, his relationship with Emily becomes stronger than it has ever been.
