Grey's Anatomy Season 22 began with the aftermath of a devastating blast in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Season 21 ended with a blast, and judging by the intensity of it, it looked fatal. A leaking acetylene tank caused the explosion, leaving several injured and a few dead. Among the ones who were injured was Dr. Atticus Lincoln, played by Chris Carmack.
When Ben was searching for Miranda Bailey, she came out of an operating theatre and said
"I'm okay, but Lincoln is not."
A huge black pillar had fallen on Dr. Atticus Lincoln due to the blast; although he could communicate, he was trapped under it and clearly in pain. When they tried to lift the pillar, Miranda asked them to stop. Why? A piece of the ceiling was penetrating just below his clavicle. While his colleagues calmed him down, Lincoln panicked as he screamed for help,
"Please get it out. You gotta get it out. Get that thing off me."
After an intense operation, Dr. Atticus Lincoln finally managed to survive in the end, although his situation was still critical. Here's how.
Does Lincoln die in Grey's Anatomy Season 22?
No, Dr. Atticus Lincoln does not die in Grey's Anatomy Season 22. Even though he almost gets crushed beneath a huge pillar, Hunt, Bailey, Ndugu, and the team manage to save him in the end. The operation wasn't easy, and they had to carry him in a makeshift stretcher since the elevator was not functioning properly. The team tried to boost his confidence by asking him about baby names. Since he was losing a lot of blood, Bailey asked them to stop midway. Meanwhile, Bailey called Jo, and Lincoln spoke to her, almost said his goodbyes, before he lost consciousness.
At this point, the team rushed to the ICU with an unresponsive Dr. Lincoln. Dr. Bailey motivates the team, and they decide to do a thoracotomy. The next morning, the doctors informed Jo that he was doing okay except for some chest injuries, but warned her saying,
"This could be a tough road ahead. He has lost a lot of blood."
Bailey utters,
"I haven't seen anyone pull through like that in a long time. That man did not want to leave you."
Not everyone got as lucky as Dr. Lincoln; Dr. Monica Beltran died at the end of the premiere episode. She got crushed under some heavy operating equipment. However, not before assisting Dr. Jules Millin on a difficult procedure.
Speaking to TVLine, Chris Carmack said,
"Well, I don't think he's out of the woods yet, unfortunately, but he seems to have made it through the initial blast. I knew I was going to survive the blast, but I didn't know what was going to happen, except that he was going to have a bad injury. Reading it on the page was a bit of a nail-biter. Also, I didn't know anyone else's storyline, so I had no idea if anyone else was going to make it."
He also added that he felt that the fans were relieved after knowing that Dr.Lincoln was safe. It is a fact that it would have been really disheartening to see this goofball of Grey Sloan die. For now, Dr. Atticus Lincoln is safe after battling too many storms.
With Jo by his side, Link's emotional journey in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 will likely explore resilience, love, and second chances. Expect a quieter strength from him this season, one not shaped by humor but by everything he almost lost.
