Stranger Things Season 5 is here and one of the questions that has been looming over the finale season is if Max will wake up. Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, first appeared in the Netflix series in Season 2. She went on to become one of the more celebrated characters on the show and hence her ‘almost death’ shocked the fans. At the end of Season 4, she falls victim to Vecna and goes into coma, leaving her future uncertain. Max’s fate, in fact, was one of the more discussed topics surrounding the new season.Stranger Things Season 5 released the first four episodes recently. Volume 1 shows that Max is still in coma, but she continues to exist within Vecna’s world. After the death of her stepbrother Billy in Season 3, Max appears devastated and guilt-ridden throughout Season 4. For Vecna, she was the perfect prey. While Eleven’s timely intervention does help keep her alive, Max goes into coma.Does Max wake up in Stranger Things Season 5?Stranger Things Season 5 finds Max still in coma. A heartbroken Lucas continues to visit her and even plays Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, in the hope that she will come out of her current state. But his efforts are in vain as she may have healed physically, but she is still unconscious.One of the more mysterious elements from the start of the new season is Holly’s invisible friend, Mr. Whatsit, whom she is seen interacting with. In Stranger Things Season 5 episode 3 titled ‘The Turnbow Trap’, the mysterious friend is disclosed to be Henry Creel aka Vecna. After Holly is taken by a Demogorgon, she will end up finding Max near a cave in the woods. In episode 4, titled ‘Sorcerer’, Max will share with Holly that after she died, she was brought back to life and heard someone calling to her. She later found herself in the Rainbow Room where Henry Creel had massacred the children and was confronted by Eleven. She could not escape his memories. However, it was the song that Lucas constantly plays that keeps her glued to reality.Max escapes from Vecna by running into the cave, through the woods. For reasons unknown to her, Vecna did not follow her. Max has been trying to escape Vecna when she stumbled upon Holly. They are within a memory, among the thousands of other memories. But good thing for Max, because now she has found a place within Vecna’s mind where he cannot harm her and keeps a safe distance.Stranger Things Season 5 does not give any explanation on the secrets behind the cave or how it relates to Henry. But both Max and Holly have found a safe haven for now. Also, we may get to see more of Henry’s memories if Max is going to get her escape plan rolling.
