Does Monica Stevens turn on Elijah in The Rookie? Details explored 

Cartel leader Elijah Stone (Brandon Jay McLaren) and Monica Stevens' (Bridget Regan) partnership in The Rookie Season 5 was certainly the most dangerous alliance for John Nolan and his unit. The teaming up of both the antagonists was especially bad for Angela's husband, Wesley, who was once a dirty lawyer for Elijah and had cheated on Monica in the past.

Monica Stevens was a corrupt lawyer to begin with, and it was clear that she had no problem bending the law according to her wishes. Her partnership with Elijah Stone was a threat to Nolan and his team until something broke this alliance.

In The Rookie Season 5, Monica realized that Elijah is a dangerous man and will only entertain her as long as she serves him right. This realization was enough for Monica to turn on Elijah, and she tipped the LAPD about his location, thus facilitating his arrest.

Monica became Elijah's lawyer in The Rookie Season 5

After Wesley came clean to Angela about his dirty work for Elijah, he had to find a new lawyer, and who could have served a criminal better than Monica? While she was already a morally corrupt and dubious lawyer to start with, her partnership with Elijah confirmed that she would bend all rules to represent him. It's quite ironic that Monica eventually became one of the most menacing antagonists in The Rookie, but she never fully revealed her end goal.

While she always gangs up with criminals and wants to acquire the maximum power and money, her initial partnership with Elijah suggests that she might have had revenge on her mind for Wesley. Since Wesley cheated on her in the past, seeing him in a happy marriage with Angela might have conjured up feelings of revenge, which is why she decided to partner up with Elijah in The Rookie Season 5.

Additionally, Elijah was a powerful cartel leader in LA, which might have led Monica to assume that joining hands with him would benefit her.

Monica turned on Elijah out of fear in The Rookie

Monica and Elijah's partnership started strong, but things took a grave turn for the lawyer in The Rookie Season 5 Episode The Con, where Monica was arrested for bribery and the murder of a federal judge. As Elijah's lawyer, Monica influenced him in favor of her client's cases, and when the Judge was murdered, the LAPD seized Monica's home, office, and all her current cases. While Monica saw through Elijah's plan and suspected that he was behind the judge's murder, her hands were tied as Elijah was far more powerful.

However, things came to a head for Monica when Elijah threatened to kill her by throwing her into a wood chipper, and she finally decided to turn on him.

In The Rookie Season 5 Episode The Enemy Within, Monica claimed that Elijah and Abril Rodas' associates are about to meet for a big drug deal. Since Elijah had previously threatened her, she decided to give up his location to the LAPD out of fear. However, the LAPD knew better than to trust Monica, and Angela and Nyla had already uncovered the meeting's location.

While Monica initially lied to the LAPD and gave them a fake location, she eventually turned on Elijah and gave them the correct location in the end. The LAPD ambushed Elijah's deal at the right time and finally arrested him. With Elijah behind bars, Monica then went on to contact Abril and offered her legal advice and warned her about the LAPD looking after her.
