We all know that British comedy icon Nick Frost is the actor playing Hagrid in HBO's Harry Potter series. Frost's involvement in the much-awaited HBO series has fans hopeful that the actor's best friend, Simon Pegg, will join the series. It must also be noted that Pegg already has a connection with the Wizarding World as he voiced Phineas Nigellus Black in the 2023 game, Hogwarts Legacy.
For the uninitiated, Phineas Nigellus Black is the great-grandfather of Harry's Godfather, Sirius, and also the least popular Hogwarts Headmaster. It must be noted that as of now, Pegg's possible involvement in the upcoming Harry Potter series is nothing beyond fan casting.
Why do fans want Simon Pegg in HBO's Harry Potter series?
Simon Pegg and Harry Potter actor Nick Frost are some of the most iconic comic duo in the British comedy scene. Every time the two actors joined forces with iconic director Edgar Wright, the screen lit up. This friendship has carried over off-screen as well. This is why fans hope that Pegg joins Nick Frost in the Wizarding World HBO series as well.
Fans are hoping for two scenarios for the upcoming HBO series: the first one being that Pegg reprises his role as Phineas Nigellus Black. It must be noted that Phineas is a part of the Harry Potter books as well, as we met him for the first time in the fifth novel, Order of the Phoenix, as one of the portraits in Dumbledore's Office. But the second scenario is:
Some hope that Simon Pegg plays Mr. Weasley in the HBO series:
British actor Mark Williams memorably played Mr. Weasley in all eight Harry Potter movies. However, ever since it was confirmed that Katherine Parkinson is playing Mrs. Weasley in the HBO series, people have been coming up with different actors who could play her husband. One of these actors is Simon Pegg.
It must be noted that people are fan-casting Simon Pegg as Mr. Weasley just because they want Hagrid and Arthur's friendly interactions from the books to be adapted for the series.
What do we know about the upcoming HBO series?
In April 2023, it was officially announced that the WBD greenlit a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's seven Potter books from HBO. Each novel will be adapted in a separate season. The upcoming first season will be adapting the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which will follow Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, in their first year at Hogwarts.
"Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!"
As the camera begins rolling for the filming of the first season this summer, we can expect to learn more about this HBO series.
