Does Zoe die in Down Cemetery Road? Speculations explored
At the end of episode 7 of Down Cemetery Road, things get complicated for Sarah and Zoe. However, Zoe especially gets caught up in a life-threatening situation. With bullets showering, Zoe had to navigate through a beach filled with mines to reach safety. However, before she is able to reach safety, a mine explodes near her.
This causes her to get flung high up in the air. Dust surrounds everything, making it unknown whether Zoe is alive or not. Viewers are left with the question of whether Zoe is able to make it to the end of episode seven in the series. Though without her, the storyline would be quite different. This is because she is the lead.
As Sarah takes Dinah on the boat, she sees the explosion. The explosion is quite big, which further increases the danger of the situation. While Dinah is trying to look in Zoe’s direction, Sarah tells her not to look.
It can be understood that she thinks that Zoe might not have made it out alive from the explosion. However, the series does not show any clear picture. So, a doubt still remains about Zoe’s life. It can be understood that Down Cemetery Road will unfold Zoe’s fate in the upcoming episode of the series.
While discussing the ending of episode 7 in Down Cemetery Road, Ruth Wilson reveals Sarah’s thought process while witnessing Zoe being thrown by the blast. She says that Sarah is not sure whether Zoe is dead or not, as she “hasn’t seen the dead body”. It cannot be denied that, unless a dead body is found, the possibility of Zoe being alive remains.
For now, as Sarah is taking Dinah to safety, she “has to keep moving”. She cannot look back to check up on Dinah, as it might jeopardize Dinah’s safety. Mick Herron indicates that the aspect of Zoe’s decision to put herself in danger is “the nature of the character”.
It is in Zoe’s nature to be like that; she always chooses to “do the right thing”. In this moment, she knew that her decision would eventually save others. Zoe also “missed the idea” that the landmines could actually be present. So, when the landmines started to blast, it was actually “a big surprise” for her.

It cannot be denied that the manner in which Emma Thompson handles these intense moments in Down Cemetery Road is truly worth appreciating. Her acting prowess shines bright as Zoe navigates through this dangerous situation.
Zoe is not “warm and cuddly”, however, she is a “very capable woman”. Emma Thompson perfectly captures this aspect of Zoe’s character in the series. It can be understood that the chance of Zoe surviving the blast is quite high. This will be explored in the next episode of Down Cemetery Road.
