Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost were seen filming together for Harry Potter

Filming for Harry Potter, the HBO series, began on 14th July 2025 in the U.K. The show will depict the journey of young wizard Harry as he begins his schooling at Hogwarts at the age of eleven, learns about the dark wizard who killed his parents and is the biggest threat to the wizarding world, and eventually defeats him. The show is based on the book series of the same name by J. K. Rowling. The series will provide a more detailed account of the events depicted in the films.

Dominic McLaughlin is playing Harry Potter in the TV series, and Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton join him as Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively. A close friend of Harry, Ron, and Hermione is Rubeus Hagrid, the gamekeeper at Hogwarts. Hagrid is played by Nick Frost. As Daily Harry Potter (@TheDailyHPotter) reports on X, Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost have been spotted filming for the show, providing us with further behind-the-scenes pictures.

HBO has unveiled the first look at Harry and Hagrid from the series. This might be because HBO wants to unveil each character's look gradually, or because filming for all characters is yet to begin. Coincidentally, Dominic and Nick, who play Harry and Hagrid, have been spotted filming for the show in London.

Since no other characters have been spotted, it might mean that the team is filming the initial scenes of Harry and Hagrid, from when they first met, went to Diagon Alley, and later interacted at Hogwarts. Or maybe this is just another case of keeping things under wraps. But either way, both actors have been seen in their respective looks, with Dominic wearing casual children's clothes and Nick in full makeup and costume needed for Hagrid.

Interestingly, a video posted by Daily Harry Potter (@TheDailyHPotter) on X showed Nick Frost climbing down what looked like subway stairs. He was dressed as Hagrid, and since Hagrid is half-giant, Frost needs to look huge. It seemed like Frost was walking on stilts or something of the sort because he was seen to have been helped by a few members of the crew to go down the stairs. Hagrid's costume is no doubt heavy, and if he were on stilts or something similar, it would definitely make it hard for Frost to walk.

We still don't know for sure how the creators are adding height to Frost to make him as huge as Hagrid is intended to be, but we guess that the actor is on stilts. The Harry Potter show is being produced by a collaborative team that includes HBO Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films. Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner, while Mark Mylod is directing. The series is executive produced by J. K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, Francesca Gardiner, Mark Mylod, and David Heyman.

Harry Potter, the television series, will be released in 2027 on HBO.
