More about Dope Thief
One of the central themes of Dope Thief is the friendship between Manny and Ray, and with all the drugs and guns around, the show essentially explores the relationship between these two men in depth. The whole story is built on their friendship. Talking about the same, Brian Tyree Henry mentioned in an interview with Rolling Stone,
“I loved Ray immediately, and I was also really attracted to the relationship between Ray and Manny. In a way, I was like, ‘Oh, Dope Thief is a love story, technically, between these two guys.”
In another interview with BuzzFeed, he put across a similar sentiment, saying,
“It's really easy to see narratives where we have a Black and brown man and there's violence and drugs. But with this one, we really wanted to pull back and show the layers of what that friendship is because at the end of the day, these two men love each other. It's a love story.”
Dope Thief is created by Peter Criag and Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer. The show is based on Dennis Tafoya's novel of the same name.
Dope Thief can be streamed on Apple TV+.
