Duff Goldman is doing a brand new series on Food Network called Super Mega Cakes. The show focuses on huge cakes that are edible, while also bringing the real world to light. The concept of the show is simple yet unique.
Throughout the episodes, fans will see Team Duff go against six teams made up of cake artists handpicked from the entire country. There are various themes on which these artists will have to work to get the best and realistic results for their cakes.
Duff Goldman sat down with Food Network and talked about Super Mega Cakes and his experience with it so far. Given the fact that he has done something of a similar concept called Buddy vs. Duff, however, he differentiates the two by saying that the current series is much tougher than the previous one.
During the challenge, the difficult part is taking on six teams at once. However, that is what added the fun element to the show, and everyone went crazy.
When asked about what sets Super Mega Cakes apart from anything that he has ever done before, Duff said,
"I really get to focus on baking, and we get points for taste. I’m a pastry chef and I love to bake. Other than Buddy vs. Duff, this is the only show I’ve been on where baking and flavor were a real component of the score on top of the mechanics and artistry."
Super Mega Cakes host Duff Goldman lays out his strategy for the competition
Super Mega Cakes required Team Duff to make six huge cakes in just four days, and needless to say, that is quite a schedule.
Talking about the same and what led to him building his team, Duff says that he just approached some of the best cake artists in the country and asked them whether they would be down for the challenge.
He laid it truthfully to them and revealed that they are outnumbered and might even lose, but they will have fun on Super Mega Cakes. In this way, he collected a team in which some "really were good with sugar, some who are really good with chocolate, some who are good with the mechanics, some who are experts at making cakes look realistic." He says it was a "mix of talents."
Another hard part was that the opposing teams included some members whom Duff Goldman had judged in other culinary competitions. This might mean that they were going to go all out to defeat him and take revenge. He said,
"I had judged a lot of them before, so they had an axe to grind if they hadn’t won when I judged. It made the competition more fun."
Super Mega Cakes releases every week on Food Network at 9 PM Eastern Time on Mondays. The episodes will later be available to stream online via Max.
