The Duffer Brothers are officially jumping from the Upside Down into Hollywood’s big leagues. After a decade of making Stranger Things a cultural phenomenon, Matt and Ross Duffer have signed an exclusive four-year deal with Paramount. The deal covers more than just shows, it covers films, TV, and streaming projects, with a big focus on letting the duo finally bring their ambitious, large-scale movie ideas to life.
They’ll be moving over after their Netflix deal wraps in April 2026, but don’t worry fans of Hawkins: the Duffer Brothers aren’t leaving their Netflix babies behind. They’ll still executive produce Stranger Things spinoffs, The Boroughs, and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
Through their banner, Upside Down Pictures, the brothers will now cook up bold, original stories under Paramount’s roof, reuniting with old allies Cindy Holland and Matt Thunell, who believed in the script that eventually became Stranger Things. In their statement, the Duffer Brothers called joining Paramount “the fulfillment of a lifelong dream” and made it clear they’re hyped to bring new worlds to the big screen.
Part of their statement read:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. David, Josh [Greenstein], and Dana [Goldberg] are passionate about bringing bold, original films to the big screen. To be part of that mission is not just exciting — it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. To do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don’t take lightly."
The duo then went on to praise Netflix as well, as they added:
“Our time at Netflix has been incredible. Ted [Sarandos], Bela [Bajaria], and Peter [Friedlander] have given us the kind of creative freedom and support that artists dream of but so rarely receive. A decade in, they are family. We’re excited to continue collaborating — not only on the upcoming release of Stranger Things 5, but also on shows we’re deeply proud to be producing, including Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and The Boroughs. And we look forward to building out the future of Stranger Things together — there are many more stories to tell beyond Hawkins, and we can’t wait to share them.”
What this means for Paramount and the Duffer Brothers

For Paramount, this is a massive win. New CEO David Ellison and his team are making good on their promise to turn the studio into a hub for top-tier talent, and landing the Duffers shows they’re serious. Executives praised the duo’s knack for storytelling that shapes culture, and hinted that their new projects will fully flex Paramount’s film, TV, and streaming platforms.
With the deal, the Duffer Brothers are also leveling up. Expect more twists, bigger stakes, and the same heart and suspense that made us all fall in love with Stranger Things, now on a cinematic scale.
