The anticipation for the final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 is reaching a fever pitch. The series will finally come to an end after almost a decade, following along with the Hawkins bunch. Speaking during a recent interview with Deadline, the duo, Matt and Ross Duffer, explained how they want their conclusion to feel earned.

They've previously defended their series against the fear of a Game of Thrones-type bloody conclusion, stating they don't want the finale to be a series of shocking moments, but rather one that feels natural, almost an inevitable way for the story to conclude the long-standing questions. Most importantly, the Duffer Brothers want the Stranger Things Season 5 finale to be honest and authentic, a reflection of the story they've developed since the very first season.

Duffer Brothers to tie up the big questions in Stranger Things Season 5, Episode 8

Ultimately, the Stranger Things Season 5 Episode 8, the finale, is not essentially rewriting the series or surprising viewers just for the sake of it. Rather, the objective is to address the questions that have loomed for quite some time now, thereby putting to rest the storylines that the viewers have been following for the past few years.

As Ross Duffer stated to Deadline, the final installment will resolve the unanswered questions, including the mystery of the Upside Down, Henry's past, Kali’s reappearance, and what it means for Eleven. And it will all be within the stipulated timeframe of two hours, which seemed too little to the creators for furnishing the characters with the ending that they deserve. He said,

“The goal is to tie up the remaining loose ends and answer any questions that remain. There are a few specifically big ones…Henry and his backstory, and then Eleven and what all this means for her and Kali.”

The Duffer Brothers are also savvy about the affection that the characters have developed with the audience. The bigger or shocking scenes in the Stranger Things Season 5 finale will be integral to the narrative instead of being cheap tricks that storytellers often pull on the audience. This confidence also reflects that the duo trusts the viewers, who managed to stick with the show all along.

Emotional payoff over narrative shock value

The essence of Stranger Things has always been its characters, which the Duffer brothers are well aware of. This is why the final installment is more concerned with character payoff than just delivering action scenes. While dissecting the concept of the Upside Down is important, what happens to the characters when all is said and done is even more significant.

The Strange Things Season 5 finale also dives right into the action because the previous episode leads into everything that needs to happen in this finale. This is no accident either, as it allows the series’ final episode to take its time and provide the audience with an emotional goodbye to the characters.
