Rachel Hilson plays another lead character, Nina Hayes. Nina is shown to be the first female Black FBI agent, and her character has been modeled on real-life examples of agents in the 1970s.
She is shown to be a determined woman who, given the then-socio-political climate, knew how to hold her head high and get her work done despite constant troubles from almost everyone around her.

Asivak Koostachin plays the role of Awan, a Navajo agent, who is disrespected at the Phoenix office and fails to stand up for himself. However, after Nina arrives and she takes control despite the people in the office pulling the same kind of behavior with her. Awan is inspired by this, and together they form an unlikely team with the single goal of bringing Ezra down.
