What to Expect in Episode 2 of Earth Abides?
Post-"Pilot," Ish is just getting along doing solitary living when he spots smoke rising from his dwelling - a hint, possibly, of other survivors. The storyline also brings in romance as on the same day, Ish is found together with another survivor, and there comes a question: Are they really building an emotionally compatible relationship or are they simply reacting out of desperation since they are two of the last people left in the world?
And also under an infestation of rats and some sense of building a new civilization again, confusion bore these survivors. The episode promises to explore the internal conflict between Ish's instinct to disconnect and his obligation to build a new social system. At the moment, trust, strength, and the fragility of human ties come clearly to the fore of the survivors' reflections on their new world.
