If you like series that focus on being young, ambitious and slightly lost, then Mindy Kaling is coming up with Not Suitable for Work, which will be a Hulu TV series. The story is about five individuals who want to achieve success in their careers but also desire personal happiness.

In simple words, the story is set in Manhattan's lively neighborhood where people are chasing a perfect career while also wanting to fulfill all their personal desires. What's interesting is that Hulu ordered it as a direct script-to-series, highlighting the trust in Kaling's creativity.

Interestingly, it's not just about the plot but also the actors involved in this project. It has been recently confirmed that fan-favorite Ego Nwodim has also joined the cast of Not Suitable for Work along with other stars like Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin in the key roles.

The series is produced by Kaling International in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television. This will ensure that the story isn't just packed with humor, but also drama and satire, something Mindy Kaling is known for.

Ego Nwodim, who left SNL this year, saying she's "honored" to be a part of the show, has now joined the cast of Mindy Kaling's upcoming TV series, Not Suitable for Work on Hulu. As mentioned above, the show is about the comedic and sometimes chaotic world of ambitious young adults trying to have it all.

The logline reads:

"Five work-obsessed twenty-somethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighbourhood, Murray Hill."

As for Ego Nwodim's role, she will appear as Kate Woodson. She's the assistant head at a prestigious all-girls private school in Manhattan. However, the actress won't be playing a main but a recurring role.

Her addition to the cast along with Victor Garber from Titanic, Greg Germann (Grey’s Anatomy), Harry Richardson (The Gilded Age), Kpop Demon Hunters star May Hong, and other reputed stars from the industry, suggests how exciting the series is going to be.

Even Mindy Kaling shared on her Instagram, with a caption:

"I keep thinking we’re done casting and then this unreal group shows up."

Development for Not Suitable for Work began in April 2024, and Hulu officially confirmed the series order in August 2025.

Ego Nwodim's thoughts after leaving SNL

Before Ego Nwodim was confirmed to appear in Not Suitable for Work, the actress decided to finally depart from SNL after giving seven hit Seasons. As a black woman, Nwodim felt incredibly happy and said:

“I felt honored to be the seventh Black woman in that cast. I hope that there will be more Black women."

Nwodim continued:

"Punkie Johnson came on the show after me. Who knows who else they’ll find as they explore and seek out other talents?"

When the actress announced her departure, she mentioned it to be the "hardest part of a great party", and expressed gratitude for her castmates and everyone involved in the show.
