Discretion is an upcoming legal drama about a mentor and protege's dynamic arriving at a complicated point when said protege discovers the messed-up actions of the law firm she's working at. Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman star as the show's protagonists. Fanning and Kidman have worked together before, and thus this is their fourth time sharing the screen together.

They have previously worked together on The Beguiled, How To Talk To Girls At Parties, and an upcoming show, Margo’s Got Money Troubles. However, this time around, the experience of working with Kidman is a different one for Fanning, as she said in an interview with Deadline at the Academy Museum's 5th Annual Gala.

Nicole Kidman was most recently seen in The Perfect Couple and Holland, while Elle Fanning has most recently starred in Sentimental Value and The Girl from Plainville. Kidman and Fanning are both set to star in Margo's Got Money Troubles. They are also going to star as the protagonists in Discretion, which received a straight-to-series order by Paramount+.

According to Variety, the logline for Discretion reads,

“Lenny (Fanning), a summer associate at a prestigious Dallas law firm, uncovers a web of NDAs masking a dark truth. When she realizes she signed the same agreement, her discoveries put her in the crosshairs of the firm’s most powerful female partner Sharon (Kidman)—upending their mentor-protégé dynamic and raising the question: who gets to keep secrets, and at what cost?”

While Kidman and Fanning have worked on other projects together, working on Discretion together is a slightly different experience. As Elle Fanning told Deadline at the Academy Museum's 5th Annual Gala,

"Well I love Nicole so much. She's a dear friend and we've worked together now I think three times but it was more in like ensemble capacities. So I think this time it's a true like two-handler and we actually get to go like head to head and she's such a dedicated artist and we both love to work hard and I just look up to her so much. So, I can't, I can't wait."

Working as co-actors in an ensemble is not the same as working as two leads. Just as viewers will have a different experience seeing Kidman and Fanning play protagonists, especially the ones who go and stand against one, Fanning thinks it's a different experience for her and Kidman as well. Both actors are talented and known for their range in acting, and this new legal drama will show them together in roles we haven't quite seen before.

Discretion is based on a short story by Chandler Baker, who is also going to write the story for the screen and executive produce the show along with Susannah Grant. Nicole Kidman and Per Saari are also executive producing under their company, Blossom Films. Elle and Dakota Fanning, along with Brittany Kahan Ward, are executive producing as well for Lewellen Pictures. Jordan Cerf of Linden Entertainment and Joe Hipps of Cut To will be executive producing as well.

Discretion will have eight episodes and begin filming in 2026, and is scheduled to be released on Paramount+.
