CBS's police procedural show, Elsbeth Season 2, starring Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce, and Carra Patterson, wrapped up on May 8, 2025. Created by the duo Robert King and Michelle King, this dramedy series is based on Elsbeth Tascioni, a successful attorney who assists the NYPD with her sharp observational skills to put criminals behind bars. The series follows an inverted detective plot format where the crime and killer are introduced first, followed by the detectives' investigation.
Ahead of Elsbeth's Season 2 finale, CBS renewed the series for a third season in February 2025. Among other updates, Findley Davidson, the casting director of Elsbeth, has opened up in a recent interview with Variety about her wish to cast Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the upcoming season. Yes, you heard that right, Waller-Bridge, who's known for her roles in the Star Wars film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the Emmy-winning series Fleabag, could play a part in Elsbeth Season 3. Davidson told Variety,
"Phoebe Waller-Bridge is someone who I think would be interesting and a little bit of a departure from what we've seen."
Davidson had previously cast a wide array of guest stars for Elsbeth, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Nathan Lane, Mary Louise-Parker, Laurie Metcalf, Vanessa Williams, and Tracey Ullman.
Davidson, who has been on the casting team for iconic projects including Bad Monkey, Nonnas, and Loser, has a sharp eye for talent. Her casting choices have elevated Elsbeth. She introduced several standout characters that brought depth to the series. Now, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge on her wishlist, she hopes to take things on a different level.
Davidson also opened up about how the actors are quite interested in short-term projects rather than long-term commitments. She further told Variety,
"Carrie just sets the tone so beautifully on set. She’s been doing this for a long time; she’s friends with many of these actors. She’s just a big, big draw because people love working with Carrie."
